PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brad Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Duran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nelson comes into the arena with Black Flood Diesel - Lost Cause blaring out of the sound system. Duran has chosen Led Zeppelin - Kashmir as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Mike Duran!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, James Atkins and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Duran misses with a double jab.
Nelson moves out of range of the body kick.
Nelson doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Duran counters with a one-two to the body.
Duran throws a series of punches but Nelson moves out of range.
Duran misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Nelson shoots and misses
and Duran counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Nelson tries for a takedown but Duran sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brad Nelson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Nelson doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Duran connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Duran feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Nelson sprawling to the canvas! Nelson rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Duran finish him?!

Duran drops Nelson with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Nelson looks back up at him and smiles so Duran waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.


Nelson is rocked!

Duran looks to land a combination but Nelson avoids it well.
Oh Nelson is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Duran is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Nelson looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Nelson seems to have got his legs back now.
Nelson wants to pass the guard but Duran is keeping the position.
Nelson prevents Duran from getting back to his feet.
Nelson passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Nelson looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Nelson is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Duran is not content to let Nelson control the position.

Nelson goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Duran has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Nelson but great work by Duran.
Duran wants to lay and pray for a moment but Nelson keeps working.
Duran wants to stand but Nelson is controlling his arm.
Nelson is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Duran off and has taken his back!

Duran defends a prolonged rear naked choke attempt and turns nicely into his opponent's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Nelson wants to control but Duran is keeping busy.

Nelson is refusing to be controlled, as Duran sits in half guard.

Nelson tries to roll over but Duran keeps him under control.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Duran wants to stand up but Nelson is controlling the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Duran dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Nelson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Duran as he avoids it easily.
Nelson fails with the takedown.
Nelson takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.

Nelson shoots in and bounces Duran off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Nelson trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Duran manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Duran wants to control from the top but Nelson keeps moving.
Duran won't allow Nelson to sweep him here.

Nelson looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Duran passes into side control.
Duran gets to mount! Nelson was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Nelson wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.

Nelson looking very determined here, making life difficult for Duran.
Duran controls the position.
Nelson prevents Duran from getting a body triangle.
Nelson tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Duran with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Nelson is trying to escape the mount.
Nelson wants to hold on but Duran pushes him away.

Duran controlling from mount.
Duran prevents Nelson from getting the reversal.
Duran wants to control the pace but Nelson is squirming around nicely.
Nelson throwing hammer fists to the chest of Duran. What's that going to do exactly?
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Nelson is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Mike Duran will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Nelson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Duran pinned against the cage. Duran gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Duran throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Nelson gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Duran comes in over the top with a devastating right hand! Nelson stumbles back against the cage, looking to regain his senses but Duran is on him like rabid pit bull! Nelson slumps to the ground under a storm of punches and this fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:41 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mike Duran!
Mike Duran bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
