Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Rousimar Toquinho! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Burl Ives! The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Vladimir Khabensky and Viktor Lagutenko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ives ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Toquinho gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Ives counters with a right hand to the body. Toquinho shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Ives lands with a hook. Toquinho tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. Rousimar Toquinho seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Toquinho closes the distance and clinches up with Ives, looking for a takedown. Toquinho pushes Ives against the cage but Ives circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rousimar Toquinho. That's going to take a lot out of him. A nice combination there by Ives.
Ives slaps away a takedown attempt from Toquinho, before circling back to the center of the mat. Ives scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction. Danga de danga de dang - Ives scores with a four punch combination! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Toquinho throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Ives's waist but Ives gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Toquinho off to one side. Toquinho is breathing heavily. Toquinho walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Ives lands with a nice body punch. Ives moves into range and connects with a jab. Toquinho blocks a head kick by Ives.
Ives goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Ives throws a one two combo.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Toquinho. Ives throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Toquinho's head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ives lands a right hook to the body.
Ives lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Ives looks to land a combination. Toquinho sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots. Toquinho shoots in but Ives avoids the takedown attempt easily. Ives shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Toquinho eats them both and turns towards Ives to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. Toquinho checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time. Burl Ives is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Ives misses with a kick to the body.
Toquinho looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Ives works over Toquinho's head and body with a nice combination. Ives pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Toquinho back to the cage. Ives follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver. Toquinho shoots in but no luck this time. This has been an exciting period of action! Ives scores with a one two! Toquinho had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes. Ives comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Toquinho shoots in but Ives avoids the takedown attempt easily. Ives fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Ives scores to the head and body with a nice combination! Toquinho tries to score a power double leg takedown but Ives sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Toquinho somewhat. Ives ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Toquinho shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Ives but Ives pushes him off and we're back to square one. Ives throws a combination. Toquinho tries to block but a couple of punches get through. Ives keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Danga de danga de dang - Ives scores with a four punch combination! Toquinho fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ives throws a series of strikes that have Toquinho backpedaling.
Ives throws a head kick that misses. Toquinho changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Ives looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Toquinho has hold of Ives's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Ives tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Toquinho cranks the arm and Ives screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Ives, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
