PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Samoa Joe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Smokey McPot (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Joe comes to the cage accompanied by Sitting Sideways . McPot is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: D.T.A.P. - Nephew. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Smokey McPot enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Samoa Joe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Smokey McPot!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Roosa Järviläinen and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McPot swats away the attempt to clinch by Joe.
Joe throws a lazy right hand but McPot sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
McPot walks into a jab.
McPot misses with a body kick.
The fighters circling - Joe throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
McPot throws a left and a right that both miss
and Joe cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.


It looks like Smokey McPot has been cut.
Joe misses with a double jab
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
An inside leg kick from McPot misses.
McPot tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Joe is able to avoid easily.
McPot misses with an uppercut. Joe saw that one coming.
Joe throws a lazy right hand but McPot sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
McPot wants to clinch.
Smokey McPot seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McPot throws a series of punches but Joe avoids them all with ease.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Joe avoids a kick to the body.
McPot misses the body punch
and Joe counters with a stiff right hand.

McPot has managed to clinch.
Joe prevents a body shot from McPot.
McPot tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
McPot landing knees to the body.
Joe goes for a takedown attempt but McPot pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Joe misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from McPot.
Joe takes a body punch but keeps moving.
McPot stuns Joe with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
McPot connects with a body shot.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Joe is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by McPot.
Joe throws a jab when McPot was well out of range.
Joe lands a jab to McPot's midsection.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
McPot uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Joe.

Joe shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. McPot is trying to defend but Joe finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Joe throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
McPot tries to get to full guard but Joe has control of the leg.
Joe missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
McPot blocking the ground and pound attempt from Joe.
McPot keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Joe lands a nice short elbow.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Joe is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so McPot is just riding it out for now. Joe eventually gives up the hold.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Joe throwing shots but McPot is blocking nicely.
Joe wants to pass the guard but McPot is defending well.
Joe wants to control but McPot is keeping him busy.
McPot keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
McPot is staying active underneath Joe, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Joe is working for a submission of some sort.
McPot has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Joe is working away from the top position though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
McPot pushes Joe off looking to stand but Joe dives back in and keeps control.
Joe is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
McPot is trying to stand up here but Joe is controlling him well.
McPot tries to get to full guard but Joe has control of the leg.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Joe connects with a nice short shot to McPot's temple.
Joe throwing shots but McPot is blocking nicely.
Joe missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Joe thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed McPot's head.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Joe throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Joe scoring with strikes to the body and head.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Samoa Joe dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Smokey McPot's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


McPot misses with an attempted mid kick.
Joe misses with a right hand
and McPot counters with a thumping low kick.
McPot fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Joe manages to avoid it.
McPot swings away with a leg kick that misses.
McPot feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Joe's calf.
Joe throws a shot from downtown. McPot moves away and avoids it.
McPot fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Joe is out of range.
Joe has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from McPot finds it's way round the side to connect with Joe's head.
A big left from Joe misses.
Joe avoids the body shot from McPot.
Joe fails with an attempt to clinch.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Joe checks a leg kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Joe pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
McPot scoring well with a low kick there.
Joe connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
McPot keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Joe misses with a looping right.
A looping hook to the body misses from Joe. McPot does a little dance to reset his feet.
Joe throws an uppercut from half a mile away. McPot sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Joe works McPot's body with a nice hook.
Joe moves out of range of the leg kick from McPot.
Nice body punch from McPot.
McPot uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Joe.
McPot with a hook.
McPot walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Joe checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
McPot feints and then cracks Joe's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Joe down.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jab, jab by Joe - just one landing.
This has been an exciting period of action!
McPot throws a nice looking combination but Joe bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Nice uppercut there from Joe.


McPot is rocked!
McPot gets clipped by a big right hand and goes down spinning to the canvas! Joe gets the back mount and begins to drop bombs on his rocked foe! McPot is too out of it to defend against the strikes and the referee jumps in to save him from the beatdown!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:23 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Samoa Joe!
