Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Julius Maia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and El Kabong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Julius Maia looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Julius Maia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, El Kabong!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Paul Tew and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Maia.
Kabong lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Kabong scores with the left hand. Maia knows he should have avoided that one.
Kabong throws a hook but Maia blocks it.
Maia displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Kabong throws out the jab.
Kabong bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Kabong scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Maia doesn't seem bothered though.
A telegraphed right hand from Kabong misses the target.
Kabong throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
El Kabong seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kabong throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Maia on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Kabong lands a nice shot to the body.
Maia shoots in for a takedown but Kabong shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
A telegraphed right hand from Kabong misses the target.
Kabong jabs Maia to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Kabong misses with an uppercut.
Kabong scores with a three punch combo!
Kabong feints a jab promting Maia to slip. Kabong then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Maia slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Maia uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Kabong.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kabong throws a jab when Maia was well out of range.
Kabong lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Maia shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
El Kabong is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Maia gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Still in the clinch, Kabong scores with a nice short uppercut.
Kabong wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Kabong is pushing Maia up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Kabong working some nice short punches in the clinch.

Kabong tries to throw a body punch but Maia avoids it by throwing Kabong back against the cage.
Kabong leaning against his opponent.
Kabong works on Maia's body with a couple of short punches.
Kabong tries to work over Maia's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Kabong softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.

Maia ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Maia no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Maia is trying to control the position but Kabong postures up.
Kabong wants to control from the top but Maia keeps moving.
Kabong postures up in Maia's guard and throws a big left but Maia blocks it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kabong lying in Maia's guard like a wet fish here, stalling away. Maia decides he's had enough of all that nonsense - he escapes his hips and locks up an armbar! Wow, that was slick! Kabong taps! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Julius Maia!
A relieved looking Julius Maia thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
