Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wirm Kness! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Austin Fowler! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Chris Downing and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kness ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Fowler moves away. Kness misses with a looping left. Fowler shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Kness manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Fowler passes into half guard. Kness is defending against the submission attempts here by Fowler.
Fowler trying to mount his opponent but Kness defends it. Fowler is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Kness doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Fowler. Fowler not landing any meaningful shots this time.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kness manages to escape and get back to his feet! Kness misses with a looping left. Kness tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Fowler was well out of range. Poor timing from Kness. The fighters circling - Kness throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Fowler displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Kness throws out the jab. Fowler shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Kness is trying to defend but Fowler finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Kness is looking for a sweep. Fowler is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Kness manages to get to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fowler pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kness is keeping the position for now. Kness has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Fowler can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Kness working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Fowler doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Fowler manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Fowler drops back looking for a leg! Kness is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Kness manages to kick Fowler off! Fowler jumps back into Kness's guard. Fowler works a leg free and moves into half guard. Kness is looking to escape.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fowler is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Kness to slip a leg under and get back to full guard. Fowler trying to control but Kness is working from the bottom. Kness trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage. Kness is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Fowler trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Fowler must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Kness trying to keep a closed guard but Fowler is proving a slippery customer.
Fowler thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Kness working a defensive guard here.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Fowler tries to advance position but instead Kness slips a leg back in to half guard. Kness pushes Fowler off looking to stand but Fowler dives back in and keeps control.
Fowler is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Kness doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Fowler. Kness might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Fowler is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Kness has managed to free his arm - good work. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Kness wants to control but Fowler is keeping busy and won't allow it. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Fowler thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Kness's head. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Austin Fowler will probably get the nod. That's time! Kness's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Fowler drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kness is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Kness manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Fowler seems to be working for a kimura but Kness defends the submission attempt. Kness wants to improve his position but Fowler is controlling well.

The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Fowler passes the guard and advances to mount! Fowler fails to move to back control. Fowler goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Kness turns into him and now he's in Fowler's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Kness trying to control the position but Fowler is working away. Fowler is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Fowler gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! Fowler tries to lock up and control but Kness gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Fowler sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Kness is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Fowler reverses the position - he's now on top in Kness's guard. Fowler prevents Kness from getting back to his feet. Kness throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kness is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Fowler is pushing down on Kness's leg trying to pass to half guard. Kness is fighting to maintain full guard but Fowler has managed to sneak the leg through. Fowler is looking to advance position but Kness won't allow it. Fowler is looking to stall here but Kness recovers full guard. Fowler looking to pass the guard. Fowler is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Fowler drops back looking for a leg! Kness is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Kness manages to kick Fowler off! Fowler jumps back into Kness's guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Austin Fowler will probably get the nod - 10:9. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Kness tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Fowler is in Kness's guard. Fowler avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Fowler wants to pass the guard but Kness is keeping the position. Fowler with a flurry of punches that miss. Kness is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Fowler gets to his feet. Kness looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Fowler throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Kness tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Fowler is in Kness's guard. Fowler looking to improve position, pressing down on Kness's thigh with his hand. Kness seems to be working to lock up a guilotine though... is Fowler paying attention? Apparently not! He's locked it up tight! Fowler's face has turned purple! Will he tap? Will he! YES! He's tapped! Kness picked his opening and made it count! Great finish!
