Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kendall Alves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Justin Bullard!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Kenichi Hosakawa and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Alves closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
The ground and pound from Alves seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Alves is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Bullard has escaped the position, nice work there.
Alves throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Alves creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Bullard sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Bullard really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Alves. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Alves wants to control but Bullard is keeping him busy.

Alves working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Alves is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Bullard has escaped the position, nice work there.

Bullard is looking for a sweep.

Alves in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Bullard taking a bit of punishment here - Alves scoring with strikes.
Alves really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Bullard tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Alves wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Alves wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Bullard, who protects the arm well.
Alves is looking to take a break and control but Bullard is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Alves wants to control but Bullard is keeping him busy.
Bullard parries the strikes from Alves easily there. Alves is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Bullard to escape.
Alves has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Alves looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
The strikes coming from Alves are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Alves lands a nice forearm strike.

Alves working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Bullard is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bullard takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Alves works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Alves looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Alves misses with the ground and pound.
Bullard pushes Alves away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Alves gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Bullard can do anything to dispel that myth.

Alves throws an elbow but Bullard slips to the side and avoids it well.

Alves lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Alves is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Bullard is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alves fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Bullard jabs Alves to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Bullard throws a lazy uppercut
and Alves counters with a nice uppercut.

Alves looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Bullard!

Alves has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Bullard is forced to tap!
