PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Patrick McGowen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Bedows (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Patrick McGowen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jason Bedows!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Robert Twigg and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McGowen shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bedows looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
McGowen works his way into full mount!

McGowen jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Bedows manages to avoid the submission attempt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

McGowen is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Bedows has escaped the position, nice work there.

McGowen stands up and we're back to a striking position.

McGowen shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Bedows's guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as McGowen accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
McGowen seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
McGowen is looking to advance position but Bedows has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Bedows is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
McGowen flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
McGowen is trying desperately to improve position.
McGowen is squirming around, avoiding Bedows's attempts to control the action.
McGowen tries to get back to half guard but can't.
McGowen gets back to half guard.

Bedows prevents McGowen from improving his position.
McGowen is working hard here to advance position.
McGowen trying to control but Bedows postures up.
Bedows prevents McGowen from standing back up.
McGowen tries to get to full guard but Bedows has control of the leg.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
McGowen is looking to get back to is feet but Bedows passes into side control.
McGowen manages to work his way to half guard, despite Bedows's best efforts.
Bedows is tying to control. McGowen wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
McGowen gets back to full guard.
McGowen controls Bedows momentarily but Bedows frees himself.

McGowen is working an open guard so Bedows takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
McGowen swats away the attempt to clinch by Bedows.
McGowen ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Good work by Bedows as he checks the leg kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Patrick McGowen dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Bedows shoots and misses
and McGowen counters with a stiff right hand.

McGowen scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

McGowen tries for a kimura but Bedows is defending well.
McGowen remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Bedows is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, McGowen asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Bedows is letting McGowen control him for a moment.

Bedows gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
McGowen lands strikes from half guard.
McGowen trying to control the action but Bedows is working from the bottom.

McGowen stands up out of the half guard.
McGowen tries to bum rush Bedows with a series of wild strikes but Bedows uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Bedows takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
McGowen throws out a leg kick but Bedows moves out of range and McGowen only half commits.
Patrick McGowen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McGowen throws a series of punches but Bedows avoids them all with ease.

McGowen throws a right hand that Bedows ducks under and follows up with a left that Bedows also avoids with ease.
McGowen lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by McGowen.

Bedows tries to clinch but fails miserably

and McGowen counters with a nice double leg into guard.
McGowen trying to control the position from guard on top but Bedows is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

McGowen trying to control but Bedows is working from the bottom.
McGowen is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Bedows is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

McGowen stands and steps away. Bedows gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

McGowen looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Bedows!

McGowen is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

McGowen shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
McGowen works over Bedows with some ground and pound from guard.
McGowen wants to control from the top but Bedows keeps moving.
McGowen slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
McGowen slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

McGowen is putting a hurting on Bedows here, landing some big shots from side control.

McGowen is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Bedows has escaped the position, nice work there.
McGowen is looking to take a break and control but Bedows is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
McGowen lands a nice forearm strike.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


McGowen throws a leg kick but Bedows sees it coming and moves out of range.
Bedows fails with the takedown.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Bedows wants to get back to striking at distance but McGowen won't allow it.
Bedows misses with a punch to the body.
Bedows tries to pull guard but McGowen won't allow it.

McGowen drags the fight down to the ground.
Bedows wants to control from the top but McGowen keeps moving.
Patrick McGowen overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

McGowen pushes Bedows off and gets back to his feet.
McGowen tries to work over Bedows's front leg with a kick but Bedows checks it.
Bedows takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

McGowen looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Bedows stuffs the takedown.
McGowen throws a head kick that misses.

McGowen closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
McGowen remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

McGowen shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Bedows as he avoids it easily.

A head kick misses from McGowen.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from McGowen lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Bedows has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Bedows and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
McGowen tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
McGowen rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Bedows moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
McGowen lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
McGowen shoots in for a double leg but Bedows sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Patrick McGowen. That's going to take a lot out of him.
McGowen throws a nice looking combination but Bedows bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Bedows bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Bedows stands up and we're back to a striking position.
McGowen lands a big head kick that sends Bedows to the canvas! McGowen follows up with strikes from the mount that forces the ref to step in and stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:47 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Patrick McGowen!
