PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Charles Cartez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dev Norm (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Norm comes into a darkened arena with his song building. No beef afro jack kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Charles Cartez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dev Norm!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Jonathan Paton and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cartez rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Norm counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Cartez misses with a left hand

and Norm counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Norm trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Cartez manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Norm is trying to keep Cartez in close.
Norm looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Norm looking to control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Norm working a defensive guard but Cartez manages to pass into side control anyway.
Norm is looking to regain half guard here but Cartez keeps moving and retains side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Norm is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Cartez asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Norm is trying to escape the position but Cartez is controlling the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Norm fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Cartez sprawls well initially but Norm persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Norm not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Still in half guard, Norm seems content to control.
Cartez is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Norm's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Norm's back!
Norm trying to control but not successfully.
Cartez has the hooks in. Norm is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Norm controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.

Norm looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Norm looks gassed!
You can see the frustration on Norm's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Norm trying to control but not successfully.
Cartez slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dev Norm dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Norm bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Norm throwing strikes but Cartez manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Cartez controls the position.
Cartez in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

Cartez is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Norm's shoulder. That is not cool.
You can see the frustration on Norm's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

A lull in the action here as Cartez stalls from top position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Charles Cartez wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Cartez slaps away a takedown attempt from Norm, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Norm moves out of range as Cartez strikes.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cartez darts in trying to clinch
and Norm counters with a left to the body.
Norm doesn't manage to clinch there - Cartez circles away.
Norm's corner calls for a 1-2. Norm obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Norm wants to clinch up but Cartez keeps it at a distance.
Norm avoids the body shot from Cartez.
Norm is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Cartez moves in looking to clinch but Norm pushes him off.
Cartez takes a swing at Norm's ribcage but misses.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Cartez moves into the clinch.

Norm escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Norm closes this distance looking for a takedown but Cartez circles away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Norm tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Cartez tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
A shot to the body from Cartez misses

and Norm decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Cartez's guard.
Norm trying to control the position from guard on top but Cartez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Norm must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Norm looking to sit in guard and control but Cartez gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Norm working a defensive guard but Cartez manages to pass into side control anyway.

Norm is trying to improve his position.
Cartez taking a breather here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Norm tries to buck Cartez off but Cartez is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dev Norm showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Cartez tries to clinch there but Norm circles away.
Norm throws a sloppy head kick and Cartez moves out of range easily.

Cartez gets tackled into the cage by Norm. Norm maintains the clinch.
Cartez throws an elbow but it misses.
Cartez throws an elbow that misses.

Norm breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Cartez tries to clinch there but Norm circles away.
Norm scores with a one two! Cartez had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.


Cartez is rocked!

Norm closes the distance looking for a takedown. Norm picks Cartez up and slams him brutally to the floor. Cartez is out! He's out cold! Wow, you don't see a finish like that every day!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:41 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Slam). Dev Norm!
Dev Norm bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
