Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cornwall Masterson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jack Shields!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, George Francis and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shields shoots in looking for a takedown. Masterson tries to sprawl out of it but Shields keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Masterson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Shields shoots in and drives through. Masterson sprawls well.
Masterson misses with a series of wild punches.

Masterson shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Shields tries to kick Masterson off but Masterson keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Shields is looking for a sweep. Masterson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shields is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Masterson's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Masterson's back!

Jack Shields has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Masterson displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Shields.
Cornwall Masterson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack Shields.

Masterson throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Shields's head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Shields.
Masterson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Shields is fending him off so far but Masterson persists. Nope, Shields circles away and we're back to standing.

Shields tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Shields's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Masterson throws a sloppy head kick and Shields moves out of range easily.

Masterson swats away the attempt to clinch by Shields.
Masterson uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Shields.
Masterson shoots in for a takedown but Shields shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Masterson avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Shields feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Shields stands and throws Masterson's legs to the side, diving into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Shields showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Shields closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Masterson tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Shields presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

Let's hope that Shields has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jack Shields wasn't active enough on the ground.

Masterson closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Shields preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jack Shields hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Shields shoots in but no luck this time.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
