PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Marty Block (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lazarus Slade (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Marty Block!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Lazarus Slade!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, John Mangel and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Block closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Block lands in his opponent's guard.
Block trying to control but Slade is working from the bottom.
Block connects with a couple of short punches.
Slade is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Slade manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Block manages to get himself to full guard.
Slade trying to control the position from guard on top but Block is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Block is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Slade is controlling him.
Block throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

Block trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Block wants to sweep here but Slade controlling him for the moment.
Slade is on the wrong end of a couple of strikes there.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Block shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Block was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Block wants to control the pace but Slade is squirming around nicely.

Slade wants to hold on but Block pushes him away.
Block putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
The referee warns Slade that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Slade is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Slade is bucking up trying to escape but Block cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Slade slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Block passes the guard and advances to mount!
Block looking to finish Slade with some ground and pound. This is bad for Slade!

Block controlling the pace for now.

Slade tries to reverse the position but Block maintains control.

Block looking to control but Slade is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Slade really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marty Block dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Block shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Slade wants to sweep here but Block controlling him for the moment.
Slade keeping full guard, as Block tries to pass.

Block has gone for a leg lock! Slade slips out almost immediately though and dives into Block's guard.

Slade drops back looking for a leg! Block is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Block manages to kick Slade off! Slade jumps back into Block's guard.
Marty Block overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Block looking for a sweep. Not yet Block, not yet.
Slade is breathing heavily.
Block wants to stand and escape but Slade is having none of it.
Slade wants to control from the top but Block keeps moving.
Slade stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Block swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Slade thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Block on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Block tries to get out of the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Block wants to sweep here but Slade controlling him for the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Block darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Slade wants to get back to full guard.
Block wants to lay and pray for a moment but Slade keeps working.
Slade wants to control but Block is keeping busy.
Block wants to lay and pray for a moment but Slade keeps working.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Slade avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Block.
Slade wants to improve his position but Block is controlling well.
Block lands with a punch from half guard.
Slade is not content to let Block control the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Slade doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Block scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Block landing strikes.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Slade taking punishment in the form of punches.
Block trying to control the action but Slade is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Slade can't do much from the bottom here.
Slade is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Slade manages to get back to half guard.
Slade gets full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marty Block dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Block will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Marty Block is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Slade shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Block counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Slade's guard now.

Slade is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Block rolls with it to try and escape but Slade cranks on the arm and Block is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
