Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ogmundur Girsurrson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
19 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Asmir-Haj Zslevski! The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Mauricio Rocha and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Girsurrson thows a left - swing and a miss! A big left from Zslevski misses. Girsurrson paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
It looks like Asmir-Haj Zslevski has been cut. Girsurrson bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Asmir-Haj Zslevski seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Girsurrson slips a straight right by Zslevski. Girsurrson throws out a powerful jab. Zslevski is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Girsurrson. Zslevski pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Zslevski misses with a lunging right hand
and Girsurrson counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Girsurrson rushes Zslevski and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Zslevski tries to circle away but Girsurrson has him pinned against the cage. Zslevski has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Girsurrson uses from the top position. Girsurrson content to stall in guard here. Girsurrson preventing the sweep. Girsurrson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Girsurrson controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Girsurrson wants to pass the guard but Zslevski is keeping the position.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Ogmundur Girsurrson wasn't doing enough on the ground. Girsurrson lands with a thumping leg kick.
Zslevski shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Girsurrson pinned against the cage. Girsurrson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Girsurrson scores with a one two! Zslevski had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes. Zslevski misses with an uppercut
letting Girsurrson counter with a right hand. Zslevski throws a lazy right hand but Girsurrson sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Girsurrson misses the shot to the body. Zslevski throws a looping overhand right but Girsurrson ducks down to avoid it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Zslevski missing with a left hand there. Girsurrson was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Girsurrson throws a hook but Zslevski blocks it. Zslevski tries for a takedown but Girsurrson sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Girsurrson throws a one two combo.
Girsurrson ducks under a wild hook from Zslevski. Girsurrson tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Girsurrson pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Zslevski takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Zslevski takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Girsurrson connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Zslevski momentarily.
Zslevski uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Girsurrson.
Zslevski throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Girsurrson makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. Zslevski shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Zslevski throws a right hand that misses
and Girsurrson counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Girsurrson stuffs the takedown. Ogmundur Girsurrson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Asmir-Haj Zslevski.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Girsurrson fails in his attempt to clinch. Girsurrson doesn't manage to clinch there - Zslevski circles away.
Girsurrson blocks a jab. Girsurrson clinches up against the cage. Girsurrson lands a body punch. Girsurrson lands with a short head shot on the inside. Girsurrson lands with a left to the head. Girsurrson blocks an uppercut.
Zslevski has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Zslevski misses with a punch on the inside.
Zslevski changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Girsurrson fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Ogmundur Girsurrson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Girsurrson lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Zslevski dives in and grabs Girsurrson's left leg, looking for a takedown. Girsurrson pushes down on Zslevski's head and hops out. Girsurrson lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range. Zslevski looks gassed!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Girsurrson throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Zslevski walks into a straight right hand from Girsurrson. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Zslevski pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Girsurrson connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. Girsurrson drops Zslevski with a naaaaasty hook - Zslevski is in real trouble here! Girsurrson dives in to side control and pounds out his opponent for a TKO victory! The crowd goes nuts!
