PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Michal Materla (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Abel Carpone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Materla comes to the cage accompanied by Do Gory Leb. Carpone has chosen ill whoop ya head boy as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Michal Materla!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Abel Carpone!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Daniel Cesar and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Materla throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Carpone was covering up waiting for the punch and Materla finishes the takedown easily into guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Materla trying to control but Carpone is working from the bottom.
Materla throws an elbow that misses. Carpone uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Materla's guard. Nice move by Carpone!

Carpone has gone for a leg lock! Materla slips out almost immediately though and dives into Carpone's guard.
Materla missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Materla is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Carpone keeping moving, preventing Materla from controlling successfully.
Materla is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Materla stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Materla shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Materla showed some decent athleticism there.
Materla controlling the action here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Carpone pushes Materla off looking to stand but Materla dives back in and keeps control.

Materla is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Carpone still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Carpone has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
Carpone is trying to move to mount but Materla reverses beautifully and ends up in Carpone's guard.
Carpone wants to get back to his feet but Materla is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Materla trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Carpone is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Materla trying to control but Carpone is working from the bottom.
Carpone wants to stand and escape but Materla is having none of it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Michal Materla just wasn't active enough.
Materla tries to close the distance and clinch but Carpone swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Materla fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Carpone, pushing him back against the cage.
Materla is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Materla is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Carpone can't fight it off and eventually Materla manages to take the fight to the floor. Carpone looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Materla stops Carpone from standing up.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Materla throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Carpone works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Michal Materla dominated that round.
That's time! Materla's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Materla changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Carpone looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Carpone gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Materla throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Materla tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Carpone squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Materla controlling from the full mount.
Materla tries to control but Carpone wriggling away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Materla throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Carpone because Materla loaded up on that one.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carpone is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Carpone tries to buck Materla off but Materla takes his back!
Carpone wants to get back to his feet.
Materla biding his time, looking for the opening.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Materla has managed to slip his arm under Carpone's chin. This could be all over... yep, Carpone is tapping out! Submission win for Materla.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:19 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Michal Materla!
