PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Travis Hunter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sorgi Kartov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kartov has chosen Coal Chamber - Loco as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Travis Hunter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sorgi Kartov!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hunter misses with a wild body shot.
Hunter uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Kartov has time to react.

Kartov throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Hunter tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Kartov is in Hunter's guard.
Hunter throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Hunter is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kartov stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hunter swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hunter is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Hunter working for a triangle but Kartov defends it easily.

Hunter looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Kartov passes into side control.

Kartov wants to take his opponent's back but Hunter doesn't allow it.
Hunter wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.

Kartov is not going to allow Hunter to sit and survive in this position.

Kartov doesn't have the hooks in and Hunter manages to turn into his guard.

Kartov is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

That was a close round but I would say that Travis Hunter will probably get the nod.

Hunter doesn't manage to clinch there - Kartov circles away.

Kartov shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Kartov showed some decent athleticism there.
Kartov is thwarting Hunter's attempts to control the position.

Hunter wants to control but Kartov is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Hunter manages to reverse the position and now he's in Kartov's guard. Nice work there by Hunter.

Travis Hunter overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hunter accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Kartov fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Hunter to the ground. Kartov is now in Hunter's guard.
Hunter is trying to control the position but Kartov postures up.
Kartov passes Hunter's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Hunter is looking to control Kartov's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Hunter avoid being mounted?
Hunter wants to get back to full guard but Kartov has passed into side control.
Hunter is letting Kartov control him for a moment.
Hunter is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Kartov off and has taken his back!

Kartov is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.

Hunter looking for the choke but no joy.

Hunter is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Kartov knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Kartov for a finish.
Hunter misses with a punch to the head.
Oooh a big shot gets through from Hunter. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!

Hunter has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kartov can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Travis Hunter is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Hunter looking for a sweep. Not yet Hunter, not yet.
Kartov is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Let's hope that Kartov has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Travis Hunter showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Hunter has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
