PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hoy Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Black Belt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Belt has chosen Bon Jovi - Blaze of Glory as his entrance music. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hoy Nelson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Black Belt!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, David Schapiro and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nelson is looking to slow Belt down with leg kicks.
Belt wants to land a leg kick but Nelson is out of range.
Nelson shoots in for a double leg but Belt sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Belt cracks Nelson with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Belt misses with a straight left.
The fight stays on the outside here - Nelson looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Belt just misses with a punch to the body.
Nelson goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Belt throws a jab when Nelson was well out of range.
Nelson moves away from the strike by Belt.
Nelson walks into a left hand.
Belt misses the shot to the body.
Belt connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Nelson momentarily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Nelson misses with a low kick.

Belt waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Nelson.

Nelson scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Belt is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Belt has one of Nelson's arms on lockdown, trying to prevent him from doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Belt tries to bench press Nelson off him but Nelson keeps the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Belt manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Belt is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Belt makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Belt.

Nelson throwing strikes from guard but Belt blocks nicely.
Nelson is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Belt wants to sweep here but Nelson controlling him for the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Hoy Nelson.
Belt throws a head kick that half lands.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Belt pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Nelson shoots in but Belt avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Nelson gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Belt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Black Belt dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Nelson walks into a left hand.
A solid leg kick lands there for Nelson.
Belt is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Nelson misses with a low kick as Belt jumps back.
Nelson throws a low kick, looking for Belt's leg but Belt calmly moves out of range.
Belt misses with an uppercut
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Belt misses with a body shot
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Nelson tries to clinch there but Belt circles away.
Belt lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Nelson scores with a kick to the midsection.
Nelson throws a low kick but Belt moves out of range easily.
Belt sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Nelson goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Belt is breathing heavily.
Nelson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Belt paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Nelson thumps Belt with a low kick.
Nelson scoring well with a low kick there.
Nelson looks to land a body kick but Belt moved away.
Hoy Nelson is winning the standup battle so far.
Nelson scores with a spinning back kick!
Hoy Nelson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Nelson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Belt to the mat! Belt manages to get full guard.
Nelson is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Belt utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Nelson trying to control the position from guard on top but Belt is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Nelson wants to control from the top but Belt keeps moving.
Nelson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Hoy Nelson has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Belt checks a leg kick.
Belt is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Nelson.
Nelson connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Belt lands with a good body shot.
Belt ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Nelson moves away.
Nelson moves out of range of the leg kick from Belt.
Belt keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Nelson turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Belt takes a swing at Nelson's ribcage but misses.
Belt has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Belt checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Belt keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Nelson is looking to score with low kicks.
Black Belt seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Belt moves out of range of the body kick from Nelson.
Nelson lands a nice leg kick that just misses Belt's sensitive parts.
Nelson throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

Nelson gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Nelson tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Belt is able to avoid easily.

Nelson throws a leg kick which misses Belt's front leg but catches the back leg as Belt tries to avoid it.
Nelson tries to clinch up.
Nelson walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Nelson drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Nelson sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Belt is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Nelson is looking to take a break and control but Belt is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Nelson misses with the ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hoy Nelson dominated that second round.
That's time! Nelson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Nelson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Belt to the mat! Belt manages to get full guard.
Nelson wants to control from the top but Belt keeps moving.
Belt wants to sweep but no luck.
Belt trying to keep a closed guard but Nelson is proving a slippery customer.

Nelson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Belt is keeping the position for now.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Hoy Nelson.
A swing and a miss from Belt.
Belt lands with a nice body punch.
A jab from Belt misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Belt lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Nelson has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Nelson and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Nelson is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Belt takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Belt gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Nelson controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Nelson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Belt swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Nelson not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Belt tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Nelson was well out of range. Poor timing from Belt.
Belt tries to land a leg kick but Nelson saw it coming and moves away.
Belt throws a solid leg kick but Nelson takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Belt.

Belt takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Belt throws out a loose jab but Nelson uses good head movement to avoid it.
Nelson cracks the inside of Belt's front leg.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Nelson tried to score with a low kick but Belt checks it.
Nelson tries to land a front kick but Belt steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Nelson thumps Belt with a low kick.

And that's the end of the fight!
Hoy Nelson showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Nelson has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
