Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Marti Pico (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Denny Rafael (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rafael is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Dragging Dead Bodies in Blue Bags Up Really Long Hills. Marti Pico has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Marti Pico!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Denny Rafael!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Hugh Johnson and Donatello Bradman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rafael throws the left hand but Pico avoids the punch easily.
Rafael waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Pico.
Pico feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Rafael looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Pico drops back looking for a leg! Rafael is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Rafael manages to kick Pico off! Pico jumps back into Rafael's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rafael is looking for a triangle here but Pico uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Rafael tries to buck Pico off but Pico is having none of it.
Rafael is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Pico is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Rafael wants to try and get back to his feet.

Pico prevents Rafael from getting the reversal.
Rafael manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Pico prevents Rafael from improving his position.
Rafael tries to kick Pico off but Pico keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Rafael makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Rafael.
Rafael has his foot on Pico's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Pico works his way back into a safe position though.
Rafael is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Pico defends well.

Pico is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pico stands and throws Rafael's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Rafael manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Rafael looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Rafael uses his free foot to push down on Pico's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Pico.

Rafael is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Pico has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Pico!
Rafael working for submissions but it's allowed Pico to get to half guard.
Pico is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Rafael is just riding it out for now. Pico eventually gives up the hold.
Rafael is trying to stand up here but Pico is controlling him well.

Rafael is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Pico pulls his head out easily.
Rafael wants to improve his position but Pico is controlling well.
Pico has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Rafael defend it? Pico steps over the head and cranks it - Rafael is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Pico!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Marti Pico!
