Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Poe Winnie! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jimmmy Chicken! The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Josh West and Jeff Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Winnie ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Chicken moves away. Winnie misses with a straight right. Winnie looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Chicken throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Winnie leaves Chicken with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Chicken keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Chicken misses with a takedown attempt and Winnie counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Chicken is trying to pull guard but Winnie has him pressed against the cage. Poe Winnie has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jimmmy Chicken. Winnie is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. Chicken jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Winnie walks away with a smile on his face. Chicken gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Winnie swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Winnie stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Winnie wants it to stay on the feet. Winnie throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Chicken tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Winnie is in Chicken's guard. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Chicken preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Chicken managing to control the position. Winnie trying to control the position from guard on top but Chicken is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Winnie trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Chicken is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Winnie won't allow Chicken to sweep him here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Winnie scoring with punches to the head and body. Winnie wants to control from the top but Chicken keeps moving. Winnie is looking to work some ground and pound but Chicken has wrist control. Winnie stopping the sweep attempt from Chicken. Winnie loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Winnie lands a couple of digs. Winnie lands a couple of elbows. Winnie trying to control but Chicken is working from the bottom. Winnie working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Winnie trying to control the position from guard on top but Chicken is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Winnie throws a big right hand that misses.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Winnie accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Winnie won't allow Chicken to get back to his feet. Winnie landing some decent shots from guard. Winnie lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Winnie trying to control the position from guard on top but Chicken is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Winnie got a little sloppy there for a moment and Chicken has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Winnie has managed to get both his arms back between Chicken's legs - danger averted. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Chicken can do anything to dispel that myth. Chicken keeping moving, preventing Winnie from controlling successfully. Chicken keeping full guard, as Winnie tries to pass. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Winnie advances position into side control! Winnie is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Chicken knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Chicken parries the strikes from Winnie easily there. Winnie is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Chicken to escape.
Winnie looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Chicken is looking for a sweep. Winnie trying to control the action but Chicken is working from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Chicken sneaks back into half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Poe Winnie dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Winnie throws a series of punches but Chicken moves out of range. Chicken keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Winnie. Winnie ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Chicken moves away. Chicken lands a really nice looking cross but Winnie seems unphased.
Winnie drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Winnie working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Winnie postures up.
Winnie working some strikes from top position. Winnie with a flurry of punches that miss. Winnie has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Chicken is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Winnie missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Winnie chips away with some ground and pound. Winnie trying to control the position from guard on top but Chicken is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Winnie postures up in Chicken's guard and throws a big left but Chicken blocks it. Chicken tries to land a sweep but no joy. Winnie is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Chicken is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Chicken has escaped and now he's on top! Winnie pulls Chicken in to control the position. Winnie working a defensive guard here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Winnie looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Winnie is working hard here to advance position. Winnie is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Chicken postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Winnie is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Chicken, into his guard. Winnie looking to pass the guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Winnie trying to control the position from guard on top but Chicken is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Winnie makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Winnie throws an elbow that misses. Chicken uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Winnie's guard. Nice move by Chicken! Chicken postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Chicken is fighting to break Winnie's control of his arms but Winnie is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Winnie is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Winnie keeping moving, preventing Chicken from controlling successfully.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Winnie working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Chicken. Chicken wants to control from the top but Winnie keeps moving. Winnie wants to sweep here but Chicken controlling him for the moment.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Jimmmy Chicken. Chicken lands with a nice body punch. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Winnie misses with an uppercut. Chicken takes a swing at Winnie's ribcage but misses. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Poe Winnie dominated that second round. That's time! Winnie's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!
Chicken just misses with a punch to the body.
Chicken throws a lazy uppercut
and Winnie counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Winnie lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Winnie wants to take a breather but Chicken is having none of it. Chicken is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Winnie scores with a couple of nice shots. Winnie trying to control from half guard but Chicken is working away. Winnie is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! This has been an exciting period of action! Winnie trying to control but he's not successful this time. Winnie unloading with bombs! Winnie lands a big shot there that rocks Chicken but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Winnie scores with a couple of good head shots there.
It looks like Jimmmy Chicken has been cut. A nice elbow there by Winnie. Winnie scoring with strikes but Chicken is staying in there.
Chicken is rocked!
That has opened up Jimmmy Chicken's cut even more. Chicken is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Chicken is still in real trouble! Can Winnie finish him? Poe Winnie overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Winnie pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Jimmmy Chicken's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Jimmmy Chicken's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:40 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Poe Winnie! Poe Winnie bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
