PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Robert Woodhouse (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pero Uglic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Robert Woodhouse!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Pero Uglic!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Steve Erwin and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Woodhouse wants to clinch but Uglic slips to the side

and Uglic counters with a shoot takedown. Woodhouse fights it but they end up in guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Uglic wants to stand and escape but instead Woodhouse has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Uglic is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Woodhouse throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Uglic works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Uglic seems keen to control Woodhouse's posture.
Woodhouse stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Uglic swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Uglic wants to stand and escape but Woodhouse is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Woodhouse trying to control but Uglic is working from the bottom.
Woodhouse has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

so Uglic counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Woodhouse is trying to control the position but Uglic postures up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Uglic wants to pass the guard but Woodhouse is keeping the position.
Uglic working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Uglic slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Robert Woodhouse.

Uglic shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Woodhouse is trying to control but can't.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Woodhouse is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Uglic is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Woodhouse tries to roll over but Uglic keeps him under control.
Woodhouse makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Woodhouse.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Uglic accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Uglic loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Uglic trying to control the position from guard on top but Woodhouse is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Uglic scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Woodhouse gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Uglic thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Woodhouse's head.
Uglic is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Woodhouse gets full guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Woodhouse is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pero Uglic dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



The fight moves into the clinch position.

Uglic breaks the clinch.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Woodhouse.

Uglic shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Uglic throwing shots but Woodhouse is blocking nicely.
Uglic is just content to waste time from the top position. Woodhouse takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Uglic stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Woodhouse swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Woodhouse keeping moving, preventing Uglic from controlling successfully.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Woodhouse is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Uglic has his hands clasped together but Woodhouse extends an breaks Uglic's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Woodhouse.
