PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kyo Kurosaki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Kurosaki might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Machiavellism - Dir En Grey. Gracie is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Total War - The Shogun II. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kyo Kurosaki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Carlos Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Daniel Cesar and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kurosaki misses with a double jab.

Gracie scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Kurosaki is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Gracie is controlling him well.

Gracie tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Gracie has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
You can see the frustration on Kurosaki's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Gracie working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Kurosaki is not content to let Gracie control the position.
Kurosaki knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gracie on the ground.

Gracie is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Kurosaki has escaped the position, nice work there.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Gracie thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Kurosaki is looking to regain half guard here but Gracie keeps moving and retains side control.
Kurosaki is working hard here to advance position.

Kurosaki swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Gracie.
Gracie gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Kurosaki.
Kurosaki lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Gracie at a distance.
Nice takedown defense from Kurosaki. No joy for Gracie on that attempt.

Kurosaki looks to score with a jab to the body but Gracie is just out of range.
Carlos Gracie is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Kurosaki lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Kurosaki is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Gracie.

It looks like Carlos Gracie has been cut.
Gracie tries for a takedown but Kurosaki sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Kurosaki is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Gracie tries to close the distance and clinch up but Kurosaki swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Gracie dives in and grabs Kurosaki's left leg, looking for a takedown. Kurosaki pushes down on Gracie's head and hops out.
Kurosaki throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Kurosaki throws a left and a right that both miss
and Gracie counters with a big head kick but Kurosaki shrugs it off.
Kurosaki swats away the attempt to clinch by Gracie.

Gracie advances to mount.
Kurosaki tries to hold on but Gracie postures up.
Kurosaki is looking to get to half guard.
Gracie lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Gracie is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Kurosaki has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Kurosaki!

Gracie is looking to sweep but instead, Kurosaki has passed into half guard.

Kurosaki wants to control from the top but Gracie keeps moving.

Kurosaki is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Gracie is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Carlos Gracie comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Gracie has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
