Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Josh Vendo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Wagner Cavalcante! The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Seu Braga and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cavalcante throws a right and a left that Vendo avoids nicely. Cavalcante tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Vendo counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Vendo seems to be working for a kimura but Cavalcante defends the submission attempt. Vendo is working for a submission of some sort.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Vendo is looking for a kimura but Cavalcante is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Vendo to get the leverage. Vendo is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Cavalcante defends it well. Cavalcante tries to get to full guard but Vendo has control of the leg.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vendo looks to land a strike but Cavalcante avoids it nicely and regains full guard. Cavalcante keeping full guard, as Vendo tries to pass. Cavalcante is pulling down on Vendo's head. It's preventing any offense from Vendo, at least for the moment. Cavalcante preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Vendo has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Cavalcante is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Cavalcante bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Vendo's guard. Cavalcante lands a couple of decent looking shots. Vendo wants to sweep but no luck.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Vendo keeping moving, preventing Cavalcante from controlling successfully.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Wagner Cavalcante wasn't active enough on the ground. Cavalcante closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Cavalcante decides to stand up, so the ref orders Vendo to his feet. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Cavalcante swinging wildly here.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Vendo is defended easily by Cavalcante.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cavalcante throws a low kick but it's checked well by Vendo. Cavalcante tries to close the distance and clinch up but Vendo swats him away and circles back towards the center. Cavalcante gets a takedown into half guard. Cavalcante looks to land a strike but Vendo avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cavalcante looking to sit in guard and control but Vendo gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cavalcante utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Cavalcante pulls Vendo in close to his closed guard and prevents Vendo from doing any damage or advancing position. Vendo content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Cavalcante striking off his back but it's not causing Vendo any problems. Vendo trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Vendo throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Wagner Cavalcante will probably get the nod. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Cavalcante seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Vendo does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Cavalcante stalling away here and it's allowed Vendo to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. Cavalcante trying to control the position from guard on top but Vendo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Wagner Cavalcante wasn't active enough on the ground. Cavalcante throws a head kick that misses.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vendo shoots in for a double leg but Cavalcante sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Vendo. Vendo drives through with a takedown into guard. Vendo throwing strikes from guard but Cavalcante blocks nicely. Vendo is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Cavalcante is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Cavalcante has escaped and now he's on top! Cavalcante pushes down on Vendo's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Cavalcante seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Vendo does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Cavalcante throws a strike but Vendo manages to get a kimura sweep and he's found himself on top with the kimura half locked in! This would be a real turnaround! He's torquing it... Will Cavalcante tap??? YES! He's tapped! This one is all over!
