1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Charles Lee! The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Alexandre Firmino and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lee gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Lee is looking for a triangle but Mesopyan pushes his legs off easily.
Mesopyan is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Lee looking for a guillotine here but Mesopyan defends easily.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mesopyan accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Lee is looking for a triangle but Mesopyan pushes his legs off easily.

Let's see if Lee can do anything to dispel that myth.

He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mesopyan can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Lee working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mesopyan doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mesopyan manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Mesopyan looking to pass the guard. Mesopyan knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Lee on the ground. Lee keeping moving, preventing Mesopyan from controlling successfully. Lee is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Mesopyan is aware though and is defending well. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Lee has his foot on Mesopyan's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mesopyan works his way back into a safe position though. Lee looks gassed! Mesopyan tries to free his leg and advance position but Lee is retaining full guard. Lee has an active guard here but Mesopyan has managed to pass into half guard.

Mesopyan seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Lee does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Lee looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Lee is refusing to be controlled, as Mesopyan sits in half guard. Mesopyan sitting and controlling from the half guard. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Mesopyan is thwarting Lee's attempts to control the position. Mesopyan closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Lee to the mat! Lee manages to get full guard. Mesopyan trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Lee escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mesopyan gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Lee keeping moving, preventing Mesopyan from controlling successfully. Lee is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Mesopyan tries to roll over but Lee keeps him under control. Mesopyan wants to control but Lee is keeping busy and won't allow it. Lee is looking to take a break and control but Mesopyan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Lee lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Lee wants to control but Mesopyan is keeping him busy. Lee performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Mesopyan is looking to improve his position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Lee gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Mesopyan to score an easy takedown into full guard. Mesopyan stays in close to Lee's body and controls the position.
