Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Darren James! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jason Potnoir! The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Anni Minnemäki and Roosa Järviläinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Potnoir throws a sloppy head kick and James moves out of range easily. James dives in and grabs Potnoir's left leg, looking for a takedown. Potnoir pushes down on James's head and hops out. Jason Potnoir seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. James slips a jab and a cross from Potnoir.
Good exchange - Potnoir coming out on top. James tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Potnoir swivels and escapes. Potnoir wants to clinch and James decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Potnoir's guard. James thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. James won't allow Potnoir to get back to his feet. Potnoir can't keep his opponent in guard - James advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Potnoir is staying active underneath James, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
That's one minute gone in the round. James is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Potnoir has managed to free his arm - good work. James is just content to waste time from the top position. Potnoir takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard. James drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and James jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. James drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Potnoir dives on top into guard. James is looking for a triangle but Potnoir pushes his legs off easily.
Potnoir is looking to stand up but James won't let him. James looking for a sweep. Not yet James, not yet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Potnoir stands up from James's guard - Potnoir perhaps looking for a knockout. Potnoir misses with the combination.
A lazy body kick from Potnoir and James counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. James is trying to work for a kimura but Potnoir is defending well.

James is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
That's three minutes gone in the round. James is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Potnoir is surviving well by controlling James's body position as best he can. James takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. James wants to take Potnoir's back here but Potnoir is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. James is working hard here to advance position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. James goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Potnoir is on top in guard.
Potnoir wants to stand but James is controlling his posture from full guard. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. James working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Potnoir doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but James is tightening it up a little... Potnoir has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Potnoir reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Potnoir taps out! Nice BJJ there by James!
