PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jeff Hatton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mac Dowell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hatton comes to the cage accompanied by Da Rockwilder by Redman & Method Man. Mac Dowell will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jeff Hatton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mac Dowell!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dowell fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Hatton manages to avoid it.

Hatton shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Dowell napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Dowell tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hatton wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Hatton throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Dowell gets back to half guard.
Dowell is pressing down on Hatton's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Hatton is stalling in the full guard.
Dowell wants to sweep but no luck.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hatton is in close to Dowell's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Hatton controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Hatton postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Hatton slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
You can see the frustration on Dowell's face as Hatton controls the position.
Hatton moves into full mount!
Hatton lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Hatton in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Dowell is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Hatton gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

Hatton decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Dowell wants to get back to his feet.
Dowell is looking for a sweep. Hatton is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hatton is looking for a kimura but Dowell is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Hatton to get the leverage.

Hatton is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Dowell is just riding it out for now. Hatton eventually gives up the hold.
Hatton is looking to take a break and control but Dowell is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hatton is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Dowell!
Hatton scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Dowell?

Hatton stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Dowell throws a sloppy head kick

and Hatton counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Hatton uses his free foot to push down on Dowell's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Dowell.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hatton trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Dowell is rocked!
Hatton with a couple of short strikes.
Dowell is still in real trouble! Can Hatton finish him?
Hatton looking to finish here with some ground and pound. He lands one big shot that has Dowell covering up... and two more big strikes land, forcing the referee to step in and put and end to proceedings! This fight is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jeff Hatton!
