Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Cottoneye Joe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Schmidt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Joe's entrance music is Cottoneye Joe. A fine choice. Cottoneye Joe has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Cottoneye Joe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, David Schmidt!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Anni Minnemäki and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Joe throws a jab but it's blocked by Schmidt.
Joe throws a right and a left that Schmidt avoids nicely.
Joe moves in looking to clinch but Schmidt pushes him off.
Schmidt lands a jab to the head.
Joe shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Schmidt pinned against the cage. Schmidt gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Schmidt has Joe up against the cage in a clinch.
Joe throws a head punch that misses.
Schmidt wants to stall.
Schmidt creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Joe's defenses.


It looks like Cottoneye Joe has been cut.
Joe tries to land a knee to the head but Schmidt blocks with his arms.

Joe's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Joe tries to clinch but Schmidt moves out of range.
Schmidt slips a jab and a cross from Joe.
Joe takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Joe is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Schmidt.
Schmidt lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Joe circles away quickly and effectively.
Schmidt misses with a double jab.
Joe moves in looking to clinch but Schmidt pushes him off.

Joe's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Schmidt seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Joe does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Joe is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Schmidt wants to control from the top but Joe keeps moving.

Joe working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Schmidt doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Schmidt manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

That was a close second round but I would say that Cottoneye Joe will probably get the nod.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Schmidt might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Cottoneye Joe.
I think Joe has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
