PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Iceman Liddell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexander Petterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Petterson comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Can't Be Touched - Roy Jones kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Iceman Liddell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Alexander Petterson!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Wagner Zegers and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Liddell throws a nice looking combination but Petterson bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Petterson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Liddell pinned against the cage. Liddell gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Petterson drives through with a takedown into Liddell's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Petterson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Petterson makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Petterson throws a big right hand that misses.
Liddell knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Petterson on the ground.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Alexander Petterson wasn't active enough on the ground.

and Petterson counters with a takedown into side control.

The strikes coming from Petterson are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Liddell is trying to escape the position but Petterson is controlling the position.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
It looks like Petterson might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Liddell on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Liddell tries to get out of the position.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Petterson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Petterson shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Petterson gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Liddell wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Petterson successfully pulls guard.
Petterson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Petterson manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Petterson lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alexander Petterson dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Petterson moves into the clinch successfully.

Liddell is fighting off a takedown attempt but Petterson is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Liddell to the mat. Liddell regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Liddell can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Petterson controls the pace.
Liddell wants to stand up but Petterson is controlling him.
Petterson is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Petterson's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Liddell wants to get back to his feet but Petterson is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Petterson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Alexander Petterson was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Horrible takedown by Petterson or perhaps it was just good defense by Liddell which made him look bad.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Petterson is defended easily by Liddell.
Petterson looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Iceman Liddell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alexander Petterson.

Petterson shoots in and drives through. Liddell sprawls well.
Petterson shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Iceman Liddell is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Petterson walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

Petterson walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Petterson fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Liddell sprawls well initially but Petterson persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Petterson is trying to control. Liddell wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Liddell tries to kick Petterson off but Petterson keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Liddell is refusing to be controlled, as Petterson sits in half guard.
Petterson thows a huge punch but Liddell dodges it nicely.
Petterson landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Petterson is controlling the pace.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Petterson throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Petterson is taking a breather. Liddell says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Petterson is looking to take a break and control but Liddell is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Petterson is controlling the pace.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alexander Petterson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Petterson fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Liddell avoids it really well and circles away.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Petterson is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Liddell's half guard.

Liddell on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Petterson uses his free foot to push down on Liddell's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Liddell.
