The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jenkins scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Jenkins seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Maleko does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Maleko avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Jenkins. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Jenkins not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Jenkins trying to pass the guard but Maleko defending well. Jenkins takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Maleko tries to grapple but his opponent circles so Jenkins counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Jenkins in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Maleko is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Maleko preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Jenkins lands a couple of digs. Maleko can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Jenkins controls the pace. Maleko keeping moving, preventing Jenkins from controlling successfully.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jenkins throwing strikes from guard but Maleko blocks nicely. Jenkins missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Jenkins cracks Maleko with a solid left hand. Jenkins scoring with some ground and pound. Jenkins lands a couple of decent looking shots. Jenkins working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Jenkins stays in close to Maleko's body and controls the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jenkins throws a strike but Maleko rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Jenkins has Maleko pulled in close to control his posture. Jenkins wriggles free and stands up. Joe Maleko seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. This has been an exciting period of action! A momentary lapse in concentration from Maleko enables Jenkins to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Maleko manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jenkins chips away with some ground and pound. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Jenkins in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Jenkins controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Jenkins postures up in Maleko's guard and throws a big left but Maleko blocks it. Maleko working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Jenkins. Jenkins slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Maleko keeping moving, preventing Jenkins from controlling successfully. Jenkins postures up in Maleko's guard and throws a big left but Maleko blocks it. Jenkins works over Maleko with some ground and pound from guard. Jenkins with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Jenkins connects with a couple of short punches. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Jenkins lands a couple of digs.
Maleko is rocked! Jenkins lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Oh Maleko is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Jenkins arches his back and unloads with a massive left and a right! Maleko's eyes roll back into his head, he's out cold! The ref dives in to stop the fight - wow, they were hard shots!
