Maxwell comes to the cage accompanied by I LOVE YOU - The Climax Blues Band. Kerr has chosen Scotland The Brave [Instrumental] as his entrance music. Tom Kerr has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Ross Maxwell's chin.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tom Kerr!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Anni Minnemäki and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kerr stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Maxwell.
Maxwell swings for the body but Kerr moves out of range.
Kerr sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Sloppy strikes from Kerr. Those never looked like landing.
Kerr swinging wildly here.
Maxwell buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Maxwell throws a series of strikes that have Kerr backpedaling.
A looping hook to the body misses from Kerr. Maxwell does a little dance to reset his feet.
Maxwell slips a straight right by Kerr.

Maxwell shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Kerr's guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Maxwell's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kerr can do anything to dispel that myth.

Kerr utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Maxwell chips away with some ground and pound.

Kerr has momentary wrist control but Maxwell slips an elbow through the middle.
Maxwell tries to free his leg and advance position but Kerr is retaining full guard.

Kerr is trying to control the position but Maxwell postures up.
Maxwell advances position into side control!
Maxwell is working Kerr over with some ground and pound from side control.
Maxwell is chipping away with strikes.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
An elbow from Maxwell crashes against the mat.

Maxwell postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Maxwell in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Maxwell fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Maxwell cracks Kerr with an elbow. That is naaassty.
The strikes coming from Maxwell are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Maxwell laying and praying for a moment but Kerr takes advantage and regains half guard.

Maxwell is working for a submission of some sort.
Maxwell is trying to control the action in half guard but Kerr is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kerr has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Maxwell is working away from the top position though.
Maxwell passes the guard and advances to mount!
Maxwell looking to finish Kerr with some ground and pound. This is bad for Kerr!

It looks like Tom Kerr has been cut.
Maxwell trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Maxwell has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Kerr's face.


That has opened up Tom Kerr's cut even more.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Maxwell trying to control but Kerr is having none of it.

The cut above Tom Kerr's eye is starting to cause him problems now.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Tom Kerr's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:32 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Ross Maxwell!
Ross Maxwell retains his heavyweight title!
A very excited looking Ross Maxwell made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
