PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Taisto Kurmotus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jamie Carlson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carlson has chosen Rage Against The Machine: Bulls On Parade as his entrance music. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Taisto Kurmotus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 10 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jamie Carlson !
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Ivan Kurochkin and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kurmotus lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Kurmotus misses with an uppercut.
Kurmotus missing with a left hand there. Carlson was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Carlson drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Carlson looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Kurmotus tries to improve position but can't.
Carlson misses with the ground and pound.
Carlson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kurmotus keeps working.
Kurmotus is pushing Carlson 's head away, looking to escape. Carlson manages to hold on to the position though.
Carlson in side control, throwing shots but Kurmotus defends.
Kurmotus tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Carlson wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Carlson tries to score with some ground and pound. Kurmotus controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Carlson working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Carlson working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Kurmotus is trying to escape the position but Carlson is controlling the position.
Carlson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Carlson lands a decent elbow from side control.
Kurmotus managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Carlson .
Kurmotus is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Kurmotus manages to get back to half guard.
Carlson wants to pass to mount but Kurmotus is defending the position.

Kurmotus makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Carlson dips to his left and cracks Kurmotus with an uppercut!
Carlson scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Kurmotus doesn't seem bothered though.
Kurmotus keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Carlson lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Kurmotus has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Kurmotus and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Kurmotus thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Carlson if he has to take too many more of those.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Carlson throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Kurmotus misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Kurmotus swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Carlson shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Kurmotus defends it nicely.
Nice straight punches there by Kurmotus. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Kurmotus.
Carlson shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kurmotus as he jumps to the side.
Kurmotus uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Carlson .
Kurmotus takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Kurmotus ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Carlson moves away.
Kurmotus just misses with a punch to the body.

A decent looking body kick lands there for Kurmotus.
Kurmotus swings widly with a right hand
and Carlson counters with a right hand to the body.
Carlson fails to land with a series of punches.
Carlson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Carlson is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Kurmotus rather than just go for the knockout.
Carlson looks gassed!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kurmotus throws a sloppy head kick and Carlson moves out of range easily.
Carlson throws a nice looking combination but Kurmotus bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Carlson throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Kurmotus sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Kurmotus catches Carlson with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Carlson looks for a takedown but Kurmotus sprawls well.
Taisto Kurmotus has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jamie Carlson .
Kurmotus lands a lovely overhand right.
Taisto Kurmotus is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Kurmotus lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Carlson walks into a left hand.
Kurmotus takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kurmotus thows a left - swing and a miss!
Carlson tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Kurmotus was well out of range. Poor timing from Carlson .
Kurmotus throws a hook to the side of Carlson 's head but Carlson sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Carlson slips under a jab.
A combination from Carlson does no damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kurmotus tries to bum rush Carlson with a series of wild strikes but Carlson uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Nice jab there from Carlson .
Carlson swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Kurmotus tries to land a front kick but Carlson steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Carlson takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Kurmotus throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Carlson sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Kurmotus lets loose with a powerful body kick. Carlson will feel that in the morning.
Kurmotus throws an overhand right from the outside, which connects and sends Carlson stumbling backwards into the cage! Carlson bounces back off the cage towards Kurmotus, who cracks him with a two punch combination that drops him to his knees! Kurmotus lands two more shots before the referee has chance to intervene - what a finish! Kurmotus celebrates with his corner as the crowd cheer loudly.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:31 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Taisto Kurmotus!
