The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Almeida displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Thompson.
The fight moves into the clinch position.

Thompson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Almeida swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Thompson wants to stand but Almeida is controlling his posture from full guard.

Almeida got a little sloppy there for a moment and Thompson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Almeida has managed to get both his arms back between Thompson's legs - danger averted.

Almeida has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Thompson is working an open guard so Almeida takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
