Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
14 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gerald Hodges! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Terry Tate! The judges for this bout are George Francis, Gwen Towbar and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tate drives through with a takedown into guard. Tate pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hodges is keeping the position for now. Hodges will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Tate with a flurry of punches that miss. Hodges wants to stand and escape but Tate is having none of it. Tate throwing strikes but missing. Tate scoring with some ground and pound. Tate trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Tate looking to sit in guard and control but Hodges gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Tate trying to control the position here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tate is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Hodges gets to his feet - Tate follows without any prompting. Tate shoots in looking for a takedown. Hodges tries to sprawl out of it but Tate keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hodges manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Hodges tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target. Tate moves in looking to clinch but Hodges pushes him off. A slow jab from Hodges misses its intended target. Tate darts in trying to clinch and Hodges cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Tate misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Tate tries to score a power double leg takedown but Hodges sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Tate somewhat. Gerald Hodges has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Terry Tate. Tate looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Tate checks the leg kick. Hodges throws a leg kick but Tate checks it. Gerald Hodges is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. A head kick by Tate misses and Hodges counters with a nice uppercut. Tate shoots in for a takedown but Hodges shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Terry Tate seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A head kick misses from Tate. Hodges throws out a leg kick but Tate moves out of range and Hodges only half commits. Tate shoots in for a takedown but Hodges shows good takedown defense.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Tate takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Tate with a lazy takedown attempt and Hodges counters with a thumping low kick. Good leg kick by Hodges there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Hodges leaves Tate with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Hodges throws a leg kick which misses Tate's front leg but catches the back leg as Tate tries to avoid it. Tate on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Tate shoots for a double leg takedown but Hodges sprawls well. He's pushed Tate's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Hodges throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Tate throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Hodges tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Tate is in Hodges's guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Hodges is on top in guard.
Hodges wants to get up but he can't break Tate's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Hodges stands and steps away. Tate gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Hodges lands a nice looking body shot.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Tate staying out of range there. Tate misses the body punch and Hodges counters with a nice body kick. Hodges connects with the punch. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hodges slaps away a takedown attempt from Tate, before circling back to the center of the mat. Hodges bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Tate shoots in but no luck this time. Tate moves out of range of the body kick from Hodges.
Hodges scores with a slapping inside leg kick. Hodges has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Tate. Tate throws a head kick that misses. Hodges is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

Tate shoots in looking for a takedown but Hodges manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Tate's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Tate keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Tate closes the distance and clinches. Tate's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down. Hodges can't break the clinch.

Hodges throws a nice inside leg kick. Hodges buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Tate takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Hodges's corner calls for a 1-2. Hodges obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Hodges turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Tate has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Hodges. Hodges fakes a right and follows up with a big left that drops Tate to one knee - oooooh, he's wobbly! Tate looks to clinch but Hodges throws him off and pummels him into the canvas! Tate taps out under the strikes! The fight is over!
