Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Pearson! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ross Kelly! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, George Francis and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kelly shoots in but Pearson avoids the takedown attempt easily. Kelly looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Pearson is looking to clinch. Kelly shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Pearson as he jumps to the side. Kelly tries to keep at a distance but Pearson has taken the fight into the clinch. Kelly goes for a takedown in the clinch but Pearson prevents it.
John Pearson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ross Kelly. Pearson manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Pearson seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Pearson wants to sweep but no luck. Pearson has Kelly pulled in close to control his posture. Kelly must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Kelly stays in close to Pearson's body and controls the position. Pearson has a closed guard, preventing Kelly from standing up. Pearson not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Pearson is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Kelly is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Kelly trying to control but Pearson is working from the bottom. Pearson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Pearson is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Kelly doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Pearson. Pearson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Kelly trying to control here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Pearson is tying to control. Kelly wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kelly tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Pearson paws at him with a jab and circles away. No joy there for Kelly, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Pearson seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Kelly has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work. Pearson gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Kelly wants to work for an arm triangle but Pearson is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round. Pearson is staying active underneath Kelly, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Pearson is trying to get back to full guard. Kelly wants to lay and pray for a moment but Pearson keeps working. Kelly working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Pearson wants to get back to his feet.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Pearson is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Pearson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Pearson tries to clinch but Kelly is having none of it. Pearson with a poor takedown and Kelly counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Pearson's guard now. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Pearson is on top in guard.
Pearson won't allow Kelly to sweep him here. Pearson wanted to stand there but Kelly had control of the position. Kelly not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Kelly is trying to control the action in half guard but Pearson is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Kelly is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Kelly is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Pearson doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kelly.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Pearson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Kelly is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Pearson passes Kelly's right leg, so he's now in half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that John Pearson will probably get the nod. That's time! Back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pearson sitting in guard here, content to control. Kelly bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Pearson's guard. Pearson controls Kelly momentarily but Kelly frees himself. Kelly tries to stand but Pearson is controlling from the bottom. Pearson is pulling down on Kelly's head. It's preventing any offense from Kelly, at least for the moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Pearson looking for a sweep. Not yet Pearson, not yet. Kelly slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Pearson throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Kelly wants to get up but he can't break Pearson's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Pearson doesn't succeed with the takedown and Kelly counters into the clinch. Nicely done. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Pearson. That's going to take a lot out of him. Pearson misses with the head strike.
Kelly is working for takedown but Pearson is calmly controlling the position for now. Pearson jumps into guard, dragging Kelly to the mat.
Pearson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Kelly stands up from guard. Let's bang!

I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. Kelly is trying to control Pearson's posture but Pearson avoids it. Kelly is looking to regain half guard here but Pearson keeps moving and retains side control. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. Kelly gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to John Pearson. Well Pearson has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win...
