PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Eddie Alvarez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cody Sieve (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Eddie Alvarez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cody Sieve!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Daniel Franklin and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Alvarez scores with a takedown into Sieve's guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Sieve is on top in guard.
Sieve trying to control the position from guard on top but Alvarez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Alvarez wants to get back to his feet but Sieve is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Alvarez on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Alvarez tries to get out of the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Cody Sieve.

Sieve gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Alvarez thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Alvarez is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Sieve looking to hit a scissor sweep but Alvarez is one step ahead there.
Alvarez lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Sieve is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Sieve is looking to advance position but Alvarez won't allow it.

Sieve seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Alvarez does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Sieve uses his free foot to push down on Alvarez's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Alvarez.

Sieve tries to sprawl but Alvarez drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Sieve wants to improve his position but Alvarez is controlling well.
Sieve is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Alvarez scores with a couple of nice shots.
Alvarez looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Sieve with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Sieve regains full guard. Nicely done.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Alvarez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sieve has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Alvarez has managed to get both his arms back between Sieve's legs - danger averted.

Sieve is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Sieve manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Alvarez manages to get himself to full guard.

Alvarez is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Sieve.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Alvarez as Sieve tries to tie him up.

Sieve is looking to break free of the clinch but Alvarez has double underhooks.

Alvarez has clasped his hands together around Sieve's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Sieve wants to control but Alvarez postures up.
Alvarez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Sieve on the ground.

Alvarez has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Alvarez fails with a takedown attempt.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Sieve tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Sieve gets tackled into the cage by Alvarez. Alvarez maintains the clinch.

Alvarez is looking to stand back up but Sieve counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Alvarez.
Sieve is keen to just control but Alvarez is a slippery customer.

Sieve is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Alvarez doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Sieve.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Alvarez defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Sieve.
Horrible takedown by Alvarez or perhaps it was just good defense by Sieve which made him look bad.
Alvarez stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Alvarez wants it to stay on the feet.
Alvarez shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Sieve but Sieve pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Cody Sieve has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Alvarez is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Sieve looking to control but Alvarez is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Sieve throwing strikes here but Alvarez is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
The referee warns Alvarez that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Alvarez keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Sieve can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Alvarez is looking to escape.

Alvarez wants to hold on but Sieve pushes him away.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Alvarez tries to hold on but Sieve pushes him away.
Eddie Alvarez is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Sieve with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Cody Sieve comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Alvarez has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
