Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Daan Hellinga (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ric Davidson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Nard Betker and Daniel Blasius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Davidson takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
It looks like Ric Davidson has been cut.
Hellinga throws a quick inside leg kick.
Hellinga ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Hellinga lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Davidson circles away quickly and effectively.
Davidson fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Hellinga throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Hellinga moves away from the strike by Davidson.
Hellinga gets off balance looking for a body kick
and Davidson counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Davidson trying to mount his opponent but Hellinga defends it.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Davidson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Hellinga is just riding it out for now. Davidson eventually gives up the hold.
Hellinga has hold of Davidson's hands but Davidson slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Hellinga has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Davidson is working away from the top position though.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Davidson wants to work for an arm triangle but Hellinga is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Hellinga bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Hellinga misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Davidson is defended easily by Hellinga.

Hellinga throws a right and a left that Davidson avoids nicely.

Hellinga scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Davidson uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Hellinga.

A clash of legs there as Davidson blocks the low kick.
Hellinga pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Hellinga throws a head kick that Davidson semi-blocks.
Hellinga misses with a head kick.
Davidson missing with a left hand there. Hellinga was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Hellinga throws a leg kick but Davidson sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Davidson swings for the body but Hellinga moves out of range.
Davidson steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Hellinga. That one must have hurt.
Hellinga swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Hellinga, as that shot connected.
Davidson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hellinga's waist but Hellinga gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Davidson off to one side.
Daan Hellinga has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ric Davidson.

Davidson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hellinga tries to avoid it but Davidson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hellinga to the ground. Hellinga escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Daan Hellinga is winning the standup battle so far.
Davidson is breathing heavily.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Davidson crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Hellinga - the referee stops the clock and Davidson gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Hellinga. Davidson manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
