PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jarvis Chapman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Craig Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Jarvis Chapman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Craig Brown!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Richard Clark and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A jab from Chapman misses.
Brown fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Chapman fails with the takedown.
Chapman fails with an attempt to clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Chapman counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Chapman.
Brown trying to keep a closed guard but Chapman is proving a slippery customer.

Brown with a couple of shots from the bottom there - nothing Chapman can't handle though.
Chapman passes into half guard.
Brown looks like he's trying to stand up.
Well, if Chapman is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Chapman stops Brown from getting back to his feet.
Still in half guard, Chapman seems content to control.
Chapman passes to side control.

Brown tries to bench press Chapman off him but Chapman keeps the position.

Chapman has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Brown looking for a sweep but Chapman has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Brown holds on for dear life, controlling Chapman's posture momentarily.

Brown is squirming around, avoiding Chapman's attempts to control the action.
Brown is trying desperately to improve position.
Brown looks gassed!

Chapman trying to control but Brown is having none of it.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
BOOM! Chapman connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Brown tries to reverse the position but Chapman maintains control.
Chapman takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Brown is in all sorts of trouble here.
Chapman tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Chapman trying to control but Brown is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Jarvis Chapman just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Chapman throws a series of punches but Brown moves out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jarvis Chapman dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Brown shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Chapman's guard.
Chapman has his hands on Brown's head, controlling the position.
Brown trying to control the position from guard on top but Chapman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Chapman pulls Brown in close to prevent any damage.
Brown has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Chapman is proving hard to escape from.
Chapman looking for a sweep. Not yet Chapman, not yet.
Brown is breathing heavily.

Chapman has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Brown is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Chapman.

Chapman tries to improve position but can't.
Chapman is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Brown off and has taken his back!
Chapman trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Chapman cracks Brown with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Brown from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.
Chapman doesn't have the hooks in and Brown manages to turn into his guard.

Chapman manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Brown manages to get himself to full guard.
Brown looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Chapman puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Brown is looking to escape.
Brown is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Brown gets full guard.
Brown throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Brown keeping moving, preventing Chapman from controlling successfully.
Brown is trying to keep Chapman in close.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Brown is on top in guard.
Chapman can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Brown controls the pace.

Brown thows a big elbow that misses.
Brown trying to control the position from guard on top but Chapman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Chapman is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Chapman is looking to land body kicks.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Chapman doesn't manage to clinch there - Brown circles away.
Chapman blocks a head kick by Brown.
Chapman misses with a body shot.
A jab lands there for Brown.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Brown doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Chapman counters with a one-two to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jarvis Chapman will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Chapman tries to close the distance and clinch but Brown swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Brown has his takedown stuffed

and Chapman holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Chapman lands a damaging elbow.

Brown turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Brown manages to end up in side control.
Chapman tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Brown wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Brown tries to move into full mount but can't pass Chapman's legs.
Brown takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Chapman wants to control but Brown postures up.
Chapman regains half guard.
Jarvis Chapman overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Chapman is not content to let Brown control the position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Brown doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Chapman counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Chapman.

Chapman jumps into guard, dragging Brown to the mat.
Brown tries to free his leg and advance position but Chapman is retaining full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Brown gets to his feet - Chapman follows without any prompting.
Jarvis Chapman is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Chapman is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Chapman tries to clinch up but Brown circles away and keeps his distance.

Chapman has taken the fight to the clinch.

Brown breaks the clinch.
Chapman fails with the takedown

and Brown counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Brown.

Brown wants to stand but Chapman has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Brown trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Chapman has a closed guard, preventing Brown from standing up.
Brown stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Chapman swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Chapman wants to sweep here but Brown controlling him for the moment.
Brown is in close to Chapman's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Brown working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Chapman tries to land a sweep but no joy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Brown misses with a takedown attempt
and Chapman counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Jarvis Chapman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Craig Brown.
Chapman cracks a nice hook into Brown's ribs.
Chapman closes the distance but Brown moves to the side

so Brown counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Craig Brown comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Chapman has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
