PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between S Train (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Jon Ricksin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Train might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to LL Cool J - Momma Said Knock You Out. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, S Train!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jon Jon Ricksin!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Columbo Gatti and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Train throws a sloppy head kick and Ricksin moves out of range easily.
Train attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Train fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Train tries to clinch but Ricksin moves out of range.
Train moves in looking to clinch but Ricksin pushes him off.
Ricksin takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Horrible takedown by Train or perhaps it was just good defense by Ricksin which made him look bad.

Train decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Ricksin tries to get to full guard but Train has control of the leg.
Ricksin is looking to control Train's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Ricksin avoid being mounted?

Ricksin is defending against the submission attempts here by Train.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ricksin is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Train's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Train's back!
Ricksin has Train flattened out and is raining down punches.

Train is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Ricksin is landing with strikes from the back.
Ricksin struggling to keep hold of the position.
Ricksin throwing wild punches that miss their target.
Train trying to control the hands but Ricksin breaks the grip.

Ricksin is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Train knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Train for a finish.
Ricksin doesn't have the hooks in and Train manages to turn into his guard.
Ricksin looking to hit a scissor sweep but Train is one step ahead there.

Train stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Train is breathing heavily.
Train pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Train fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for S Train. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ricksin shoots for a takedown but Train saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Train tries to clinch up.
Train goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Train doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Ricksin counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Ricksin wants to free his trapped foot but Train is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Train is trying to control but can't.

Ricksin moves into full mount! Train won't be happy about that!
Ricksin can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Train is looking to escape.

Train wants to get back to his feet.
Ricksin looking to control but Train is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Train tries to reverse the position but Ricksin maintains control.
Ricksin looking to ground and pound but Train is blocking nicely.
Train swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Train is trying desperately to improve position.
Train wants to hold on but Ricksin pushes him away.
Train is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Ricksin is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Ricksin thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ricksin avoids the attempt from Train to control.
Train is looking to get to half guard.
Ricksin throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Ricksin prevents Train from getting the reversal.
Ricksin throwing strikes but Train uses the opportunity to regain half guard.
Ricksin has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Train looks like he's trying to stand up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Train gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Ricksin counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Train controls Ricksin momentarily but Ricksin frees himself.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Train is really struggling to control Ricksin but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Train is looking to stand up but Ricksin isn't so interested in that idea.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Jon Ricksin dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Train throws a body punch but Ricksin moves out of range.
Train throws a head kick that misses

and Ricksin counters with a takedown into side control.

Ricksin is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Train is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Train stops Ricksin from passing to mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ricksin looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Train is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Ricksin off and has taken his back!
Train is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Train gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Train gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Train apologises and we restart here on the feet.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Ricksin. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Train is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Ricksin is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Train reverses the position - he's now on top in Ricksin's guard.
Train lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Ricksin looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Train puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Train works his way into side control.
Train working away.
Train moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Ricksin throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.
Ricksin sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Ricksin wants to sweep here but Train controlling him for the moment.
Ricksin lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Train!
Ricksin takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Ricksin is in the full mount, landing strikes.

Ricksin jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Train is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Train and Ricksin has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Ricksin goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Train rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Ricksin's guard! Nice work there by Train!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Jon Ricksin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Ricksin misses with a takedown attempt

so Train counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Ricksin not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Train's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Train tries to lock up and control but Ricksin gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to S Train.
I think Ricksin has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
