Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Merv Bungay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nyquil Salazar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Salazar has chosen Enter Sandman as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Merv Bungay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nyquil Salazar!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bungay ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Salazar swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Bungay counters with a left to the body.
Salazar moves out of range of the body kick.
Nyquil Salazar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bungay wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Bungay scores with a hook to the body. Salazar takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Salazar will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Salazar lands with a nice body punch.
Salazar tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Bungay takes a swing at Salazar's ribcage but misses.
Salazar pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

and Salazar connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.


It looks like Merv Bungay has been cut.
Bungay scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Salazar drops his hands momentarily and Bungay takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Salazar tries to land a front kick but Bungay steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Salazar throws a low kick, looking for Bungay's leg but Bungay calmly moves out of range.
Bungay throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Salazar doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Salazar swings for the body but Bungay moves out of range.
Salazar gets off balance looking for a body kick
and Bungay counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Salazar takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Bungay scores with a shot to the body.
Salazar fails in his attempt to clinch.
Bungay stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Salazar.
Bungay misses with the combination.
Bungay connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Salazar momentarily.

Bungay connects with a single shot there.
Bungay is looking to wear down Salazar with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Bungay scores with a nice strike.
Salazar lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Bungay misses with a double jab.
A head kick misses from Salazar.
Bungay lands the left hand.
Bungay stalks Salazar and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Salazar's face. Salazar staggers backwards, shaken.
Salazar doesn't manage to clinch there - Bungay circles away.

Salazar tries for a takedown. No joy.
Salazar creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Bungay's defenses.

Salazar pushes Bungay back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Bungay throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Salazars head.
Bungay is trying to break the clinch but Salazar is controlling him.
Bungay takes an elbow to the forehead.
Salazar takes a shot to the head.
Bungay blocks the elbow strike.
Bungay misses with some punches.
Salazar is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
Bungay is breathing heavily.
Salazar scores with a nice hook to the head.
Salazar lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.

Bungay goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Bungay escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Salazar throws a head kick but Bungay moves out of range.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Salazar throws the kick towards the body but Bungay avoids it.
Bungay connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
A head kick misses from Salazar.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Bungay looks to land a left hand but Salazar moved out of range nicely.

Salazar takes the fight into the clinch.
Salazar tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Bungay smiles and moves away.
Salazar lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Salazar misses with the combination.
The fight stays on the outside here - Salazar looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Bungay fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

Salazar throws a lazy uppercut
and Bungay counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Salazar thinking.
Bungay ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Salazar moves away.
Salazar misses with a head kick.
Salazar throws a leg kick
and Bungay cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Bungay tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Bungay lands with a nice body punch.
Salazar fails with an attempt to clinch.
Salazar moves in looking to clinch but Bungay pushes him off.
Bungay lands a lovely overhand right.
Bungay lands with an overhand left.
Bungay fails to land with a series of punches.

Salazar is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Bungay.
Salazar looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Bungay misses with a body shot
and Salazar counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Salazar looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Bungay is fending him off so far but Salazar persists. Nope, Bungay circles away and we're back to standing.

and Salazar counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Bungay!
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Salazar is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Bungay can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Bungay regains half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Bungay is looking to improve his position.

Salazar is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Bungay is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Bungay tries to escape but Salazar is in control.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
An elbow from Salazar crashes against the mat.
Bungay is trying to improve his position.
Salazar working the ground and pound but Bungay is defending the strikes.
Salazar misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Bungay pushes Salazar away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Salazar gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Salazar has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Salazar lands a strong strike to the head of Bungay. That's dazed him! Salazar looking to finish here. Bungay is waving his arms around trying to block but he's hurt badly - Salazar lands more strikes and the referee steps in to end the fight!
