Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jack Shields (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and JC Koenig (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jack Shields!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, JC Koenig!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Daniel Franklin and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Koenig shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
No luck for Koenig with that takedown attempt.
Koenig fails with a takedown attempt.
Jack Shields has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of JC Koenig.
Koenig throws a series of strikes that have Shields backpedaling.
Shields keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Koenig fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Shields slaps away a takedown attempt from Koenig, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Koenig gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Shields slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Jack Shields has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Koenig is defended easily by Shields.

Shields looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Koenig shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Shields pinned against the cage. Shields gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

and Shields counters with a nice double leg into side control. Koenig won't be happy with that.

Koenig can't do much from the bottom here.

Shields just content to control the position.
Koenig is not content to let Shields control the position.
Shields moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Shields seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Koenig for as long as he can get away with.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jack Shields wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Horrible takedown by Koenig or perhaps it was just good defense by Shields which made him look bad.
Shields avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Koenig pulls guard successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Koenig tries to close the distance and clinch but Shields swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
The fighters circling - Shields throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Koenig throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Shields has a takedown stuffed.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Koenig is defended easily by Shields.
Koenig shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Shields sprawls well. Shields wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Koenig gets slowly back to his feet.
Koenig connects with a nice looking jab.

Koenig takes the fight into the clinch.
A right hook to the body lands for Koenig.

Koenig pulls guard.
Shields pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Koenig is keeping the position for now.
Shields wants to control from the top but Koenig keeps moving.
Shields not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Shields trying to control the position from guard on top but Koenig is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

We're going to have a standup here because Jack Shields wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Koenig closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Koenig throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Shields tries to bench press Koenig off him but Koenig keeps the position.
Koenig wants to control but Shields is keeping him busy.
Shields is looking to reverse the position.

Shields tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Koenig tries for a kimura but Shields is defending well.
Jack Shields overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Koenig postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Koenig is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Shields knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Shields tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Koenig trying to control but he's not successful this time.

JC Koenig showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Shields moves out of range of the body kick.
Koenig shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

so Shields counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Shields might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Shields wants to control from the top but Koenig keeps moving.
Koenig seems keen to control Shields's posture.
Shields slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jack Shields wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Shields shoots in looking for a takedown but Koenig manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Shields's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Koenig closes the distance and pushes Shields back into the cage.
Shields is trying to pull guard but Koenig has him pressed against the cage.

Koenig is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Shields changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Koenig tries to avoid it but Shields manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Koenig to the ground. Koenig escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
JC Koenig is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Shields has a takedown stuffed.

Shields closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Koenig's guard.

Koenig has his foot on Shields's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Shields works his way back into a safe position though.

Shields is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Koenig doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Shields decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Koenig's guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jack Shields showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Shields has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
