Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Andy Maurice! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chase Kouzmanoff! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Alan Glass and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Maurice is looking to clinch but Kouzmanoff is avoiding it.
Maurice gets the takedown into side control. Kouzmanoff is trying to improve his position. Kouzmanoff struggling a bit here. I wouldn't like to be where Kouzmanoff is right now. Kouzmanoff is looking to reverse the position. Kouzmanoff is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Maurice is one step ahead and moves to full mount! Maurice is landing with some decent strikes but Kouzmanoff is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Maurice trying to control but Kouzmanoff is having none of it. Kouzmanoff wants to control but Maurice is having none of it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Maurice with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Maurice lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Kouzmanoff is trying desperately to improve position. Kouzmanoff is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Maurice looking to ground and pound but Kouzmanoff is blocking nicely. Maurice with a couple of short strikes. Kouzmanoff is in a horrible position here. Maurice smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Maurice is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Kouzmanoff has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Kouzmanoff wants to control but Maurice is having none of it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kouzmanoff doing his best to control the position. Can he escape? Kouzmanoff is just holding on here. Maurice manages to take his back.
Kouzmanoff trying to control the position but Maurice manages to sink in the hooks. Maurice is trying to stick to Kouzmanoff's back but Kouzmanoff is turning into Maurice. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Maurice's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Kouzmanoff. Kouzmanoff sitting in guard doing not very much at all here. Maurice doesn't need a second invitation though! He's locked up a guillotine and he's squeezing tight! That is tiiiiiiiiight! Kouzmanoff paying the price for stalling here - he's pushing hard on the arm trying to free himself but it's no use! He's tapped! WOW, quick submission from Maurice - great work!
