Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ippo Makunouchi ! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Aleksander Yaroslev! The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Anthony Taglia and Dean Styles.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Makunouchi misses with a few strikes there.
Makunouchi looks to score with a jab to the body but Yaroslev is just out of range. Makunouchi stuffs the takedown. Yaroslev gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Makunouchi counters with a nice uppercut. Yaroslev drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Makunouchi controlling the position. Yaroslev missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Yaroslev working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Makunouchi is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Makunouchi has momentary wrist control but Yaroslev slips an elbow through the middle. Makunouchi has control of Yaroslev's left arm, preventing Yaroslev from doing any damage. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Makunouchi is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
That's one minute gone in the round. Makunouchi lands a shoulder strike. Makunouchi tries to break free but Yaroslev pushes him back against the cage. Yaroslev misses with a punch to the body.
Makunouchi gets underhooks to prevent Yaroslev's takedown attempt.
Ippo Makunouchi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Aleksander Yaroslev. Makunouchi gets underhooks to prevent Yaroslev's takedown attempt.
Makunouchi breaks the clinch.
Yaroslev shoots for a takedown but Makunouchi saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Makunouchi scores with a three punch combo!
Yaroslev misses with a takedown and Makunouchi counters with a nice uppercut. Makunouchi misses with a jab, cross combination.
Yaroslev doesn't succeed with the takedown and Makunouchi counters with a straight right hand. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Yaroslev takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Yaroslev checks a leg kick.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Makunouchi goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Yaroslev is rocked! Makunouchi lands a brutal uppercut that launches Yaroslev off his feet! Yaroslev tumbles to the floor, barely conscious - the referee jumps in to save him from a beating! Wow, what an ending!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:10 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Ippo Makunouchi ! During a confident post fight interview, Ippo Makunouchi thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
