The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aldo swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Melendez shoots in for a double leg but Aldo sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Melendez will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Melendez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Aldo gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Aldo throws a strike but Melendez rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Melendez decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

and Aldo counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Melendez's guard now.
Melendez has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Aldo can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Melendez wants to control but Aldo is keeping busy.
Aldo looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Damien Melendez dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Melendez fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Aldo sprawls well initially but Melendez persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Aldo is defending against the submission attempts here by Melendez.
Melendez is looking for a kimura but Aldo is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Melendez to get the leverage.
Melendez wants to stand but Aldo has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Aldo throws a nice looking combination but Melendez bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

and Aldo connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

and Melendez counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Melendez.

Melendez moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Aldo throws an elbow that misses. Melendez uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Aldo's guard. Nice move by Melendez!
Melendez drops back looking for a leg! Aldo is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Aldo manages to kick Melendez off! Melendez jumps back into Aldo's guard.

Melendez has gone for a leg lock! Aldo slips out almost immediately though and dives into Melendez's guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Aldo lands a couple of digs.
Melendez pushes a forearm under Aldo's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Aldo is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
