The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Eliza Hachem and Donatello Bradman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shield tries to clinch up
and Angeles counters with a thumping low kick.
Angeles takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Angeles takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Shield throws a body kick that misses.

and Angeles counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Angeles trying to control but Shield is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Shield is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Angeles is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Angeles gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Angeles slips a jab and a cross from Shield.
Shield swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Shield throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Shield looks to land a combination but Angeles avoids it well.
Shield will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Shield defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Angeles.
Shield throws a one two combo.
Shield drives through and clinches with Angeles against the cage.
Shield successfully pulls guard.
Angeles tries to free his leg and advance position but Shield is retaining full guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Well, if Angeles is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Angeles trying to work for an americana but Shield has managed to regain full guard.
Angeles stands and throws Shield's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Shield is pushing Angeles's head away, looking to escape. Angeles manages to hold on to the position though.
Angeles content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Shield tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Angeles has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Shield is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Angeles yanks on the arm and Shield is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Angeles.
