The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Shigeki Sano and Yukihiro Shimada.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kanayama is looking to clinch.
Rodgers shoots in for a double leg but Kanayama sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Rodgers with a lazy takedown attempt
and Kanayama counters with a shoot takedown. Rodgers fights it but they end up in guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Kanayama passes into half guard.
Kanayama controlling the pace.
Rodgers wants to control the action here but instead Kanayama manages to pass to full mount!

Rodgers wants to control but Kanayama is having none of it.

The crowd cheers as Rodgers lands an impressive looking overhand right. Kanayama doesn't seem phased though.
Rodgers gets a double leg takedown into Kanayama's guard.
Kanayama bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rodgers's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rodgers can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Kanayama controls the pace.

Kanayama stands up over Rodgers, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Kanayama controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Rodgers is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Rodgers tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Kanayama controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Yasuhiru Kanayama just wasn't active enough.
Rodgers tries to sprawl but Kanayama drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Rodgers is looking for a sweep. Kanayama is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Kanayama is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Rodgers is trying to stand up here but Kanayama is controlling him well.

Rodgers is trying to escape back to his feet but Kanayama uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Rodgers really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kanayama. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Rodgers is trying to work for a sweep but Kanayama has mounted him!
Rodgers tries to hold on but Kanayama pushes him away.
Rodgers is squirming around, avoiding Kanayama's attempts to control the action.

Rodgers tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Kanayama controlling from mount.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Rodgers tries to reverse the position but Kanayama maintains control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rodgers looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
Kanayama just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

That's time! Kanayama's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Kanayama decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Rodgers pushes Kanayama off, looking to escape but Kanayama dives into side control. He's locked up a kimura now - that was fast! He's cranking on it and Rodgers is forced to tap! The fight is over!
