Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dave Scaum (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Orpik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jason Orpik is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dave Scaum! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jason Orpik! The judges for this bout are George Francis, Tiny Johnson and Robert Twigg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Orpik tries for a takedown but Scaum circles away easily and Scaum decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Orpik's guard. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Orpik has Scaum pulled in close to control his posture. Scaum trying to control the position from guard on top but Orpik is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Dave Scaum just wasn't active enough. Orpik has a takedown stuffed. Scaum fails in his attempt to clinch. Scaum throws a head kick that misses. Orpik ducks right into an uppercut from Scaum. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! No joy there for Orpik, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Scaum listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. Orpik scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
That's one minute gone in the round. Scaum trying to remain calm as Orpik controls from the top position. Orpik's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Orpik wants to control but Scaum is keeping him busy. Scaum regains half guard. Orpik trying to control the pace. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jason Orpik wasn't active enough on the ground. Orpik gets tackled into the cage by Scaum. Scaum maintains the clinch. Scaum is defending well against a takedown attempt. Dave Scaum has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jason Orpik.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Orpik works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Scaum wants to sweep but no luck. Scaum is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Scaum tries to land a sweep but no joy. Orpik stays in close to Scaum's body and controls the position. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Scaum doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Jason Orpik hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Scaum is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Orpik's half guard. Orpik is trying to get back to full guard. Orpik is looking to control Scaum's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Orpik avoid being mounted? The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Orpik has his hands clasped together around Scaum's back. He's all about the action.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Scaum scoring with strikes to the body and head. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Orpik trying to hold on to Scaum's head to control him but Scaum postures up.
Scaum not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Scaum is trying to work for a kimura but Orpik is defending well.
Orpik is looking to control Scaum's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Orpik avoid being mounted? Orpik might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Scaum kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Jason Orpik. Orpik shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Scaum but Scaum pushes him off and we're back to square one. Orpik closes this distance looking for a takedown but Scaum circles away. Scaum manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Orpik on his heels. He'll look to pass Orpik's guard now, I'm sure. Scaum tries to stand but Orpik is controlling from the bottom. Scaum wants to control from the top but Orpik keeps moving. Orpik seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Scaum with a flurry of punches that miss. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Orpik is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Scaum looking to score a takedown here. Orpik is defending well but Scaum drives through and ends up in Orpik's guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Dave Scaum will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Orpik feints and as Scaum raises his hands in defense, Orpik changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Orpikis looking to pass into half guard but Scaum pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Scaum is in guard. Scaum controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Orpik not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Dave Scaum overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Orpik wants to sweep here but Scaum controlling him for the moment. Scaum stays in close to Orpik's body and controls the position. Scaum tries to free his leg and advance position but Orpik is retaining full guard. Scaum drops back looking for a leg! Orpik is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Orpik manages to kick Scaum off! Scaum jumps back into Orpik's guard. Orpik is trying to control the position but Scaum postures up. Scaum passes easily into side control. Nice work. Scaum controlling the position from side mount.
That's one minute gone in the round. Orpik wants to control but Scaum postures up. Scaum is looking to take a break and control but Orpik is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Orpik tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Scaum wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Scaum stands up and we're back to a striking position. Scaum shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Orpik is trying to defend but Scaum finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Orpik is trying to maintain the position but Scaum is very close to passing his half guard. Orpik makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Orpik.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Scaum stands up over Orpik, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Scaum postures up.
Orpik is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Orpik trying to control the position.
Orpik is pulling down on Scaum's head. It's preventing any offense from Scaum, at least for the moment. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Orpik is trying to control the position but Scaum postures up.

Scaum trying to control but he's not successful this time. Scaum avoids the attempt from Orpik to control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Scaum controlling his opponent.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Orpik is desperately trying to improve his position but Scaum has a good base and remains in mount. Orpik is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Orpik bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Orpik trying to control but Scaum is working from the bottom. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Dave Scaum has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Scaum drives through with a takedown into Orpik's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Orpik misses with a takedown attempt - Scaum sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Scaum tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. That's going to take a lot out of Jason Orpik. Scaum throws the kick towards the body but Orpik avoids it. Scaum drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Scaum pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Orpik is keeping the position for now. Orpik working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Scaum doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Scaum manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. That's one minute gone in the round. Scaum stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Orpik swivels though and keeps the full guard. Orpik had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Scaum defends it easily. Orpik looking to hit a scissor sweep but Scaum is one step ahead there. Orpik keeping full guard, as Scaum tries to pass. Orpik trying to control the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Scaum sitting in guard, not really doing much.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Scaum cracks Orpik with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Orpik takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Orpik tries to lock up and control but Scaum gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Scaum looking to control but Orpik is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Orpik is wriggling around trying to escape.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Scaum wants to control the pace but Orpik is squirming around nicely. Dave Scaum is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
And that's the end of the fight! Dave Scaum showed his dominance in that final round. Well Scaum has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
