PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Will White (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lyotoson Machsilva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Will White!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lyotoson Machsilva!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Eddie Farnsworth and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
White tries for a takedown but Machsilva sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
White misses with a takedown attempt - Machsilva sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

White closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Machsilva to the mat! Machsilva manages to get full guard.
White pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Machsilva is keeping the position for now.

White drops back looking for a leg! Machsilva is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Machsilva manages to kick White off! White jumps back into Machsilva's guard.

White is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Machsilva is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
White tries to free his leg and advance position but Machsilva is retaining full guard.
Machsilva has momentary wrist control but White slips an elbow through the middle.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Machsilva is on top in guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

White is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Machsilva slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
White is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

White escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Machsilva gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
White is breathing heavily.

Machsilva gets to his feet - White follows without any prompting.
White is looking to clinch.
White shoots for a double leg takedown but Machsilva sprawls well. He's pushed White's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Will White. That's going to take a lot out of him.
No luck for White with that takedown attempt.

White shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Machsilva as he avoids it easily.

Machsilva closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Machsilva tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Machsilva advances to mount.

Machsilva has control of White's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and White regains control of the situation pretty easily.

White is looking to get to half guard.

Machsilva is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but White is surviving well by controlling Machsilva's body position as best he can.

White tries to bum rush Machsilva with a series of wild strikes but Machsilva uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Machsilva tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. White just stands there and leans against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

White is fighting off a takedown attempt but Machsilva is just too persistent for him and manages to trip White to the mat. White regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

White has his foot on Machsilva's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Machsilva works his way back into a safe position though.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Machsilva can't do much from the bottom here.

White lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

White tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no White has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Machsilva explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

Machsilva bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
White tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Machsilva wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Lyotoson Machsilva has got the better of the ground game so far.

White manages to get to full guard.

White has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Machsilva can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Lyotoson Machsilva showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

White escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Machsilva gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Machsilva postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
White wants to sweep here but Machsilva controlling him for the moment.

White bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Machsilva's guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Machsilva had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. White is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Machsilva Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take White's back instead.

Machsilva patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
Machsilva has the hooks in. White is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Machsilva is not going to allow White to sit and survive in this position.

White is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Machsilva gets his way!

Machsilva is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but White has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

White tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
White is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Machsilva pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Machsilva jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… White is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by White and Machsilva has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
White tries to bench press Machsilva off him but Machsilva keeps the position.

White is not content to let Machsilva control the position.
White manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Machsilva is doing well to control the position and prevent White from advancing to side control.

Lyotoson Machsilva comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Machsilva has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
