PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Zeus Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexei Savickiy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johnson comes to the cage accompanied by Because I got high. Alexei Savickiy will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Zeus Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alexei Savickiy!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Illya Tyunina and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Savickiy misses with a double jab.
Savickiy moves in looking to clinch but Johnson pushes him off.
Johnson has a takedown stuffed.

and Johnson counters with a nice body shot.

Savickiy tries to bum rush Johnson with a series of wild strikes but Johnson uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Johnson feints and as Savickiy raises his hands in defense, Johnson changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Savickiy is on top in guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Johnson fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Savickiy avoids it really well and circles away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Johnson fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Savickiy sprawls well initially but Johnson persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Savickiy is pressing down on Johnson's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Johnson wants to control from the top but Savickiy keeps moving.
Johnson throws a strike but Savickiy rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Zeus Johnson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Johnson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Savickiy wants to sweep but no luck.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Johnson connects with a couple of short punches.
Savickiy utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
This has been an exciting period of action!

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Johnson connects with a nice short shot to Savickiy's temple.

Savickiy has hold of Johnson's hands but Johnson slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Savickiy is in a horrible position here. Johnson smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

and Johnson counters with a nice double leg into side control. Savickiy won't be happy with that.

Johnson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Savickiy with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Johnson connects with a nice short shot to Savickiy's temple.
Johnson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Johnson passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Savickiy!
Savickiy wants to try and get back to his feet.
Zeus Johnson is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Johnson has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Johnson seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Savickiy for as long as he can get away with.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Zeus Johnson.

Johnson lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Savickiy circles away quickly and effectively.

Johnson cracks Savickiy with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Johnson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

And that's the end of the fight!
Zeus Johnson showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Johnson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
