Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Hongan Kolistaja! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kreisi Bailaaja! The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Illya Tyunina and Sergei Dronov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kolistaja jabs Bailaaja to the body, keeping him at a distance. The fight stays on the outside here - Kolistaja looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Hongan Kolistaja seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A jab from Kolistaja misses. Kolistaja lands a jab to the head.
Kolistaja moves out of range as Bailaaja strikes. A nice leg kick lands there from Bailaaja. Kolistaja moves into range and clinches up with Bailaaja. Kolistaja wants to break free but Bailaaja has control.
Kolistaja prevents Bailaaja from breaking the clinch. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Kolistaja tries to break the clinch but Bailaaja is controlling the position. Bailaaja fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Bailaaja tries to pull guard but Kolistaja won't allow it.
Bailaaja is looking to control Kolistaja's arms but Kolistaja gets an underhook and turns him. Now Bailaaja has his back to the ropes. Kolistaja wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Kolistaja displaying some good clinch control by pressing Bailaaja up against the ropes. Bailaaja tries to pull guard but Kolistaja holds him up against the ropes and eventually Bailaaja drops back down to his feet.
Hongan Kolistaja has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kreisi Bailaaja.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kolistaja working hard to break the clinch. Kolistaja wants to break free but Bailaaja has control.
Bailaaja taking a breather. Bailaaja keeps control of Kolistaja as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Bailaaja doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Kolistaja has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Kolistaja tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Both guys are working to get underhooks. Bailaaja fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Bailaaja keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Kolistaja's efforts to push away. Bailaaja tries to stall but Kolistaja uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Bailaaja's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Kolistaja wants to clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bailaaja drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Bailaaja tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Bailaaja has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Bailaaja wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kolistaja keeps working.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bailaaja wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kolistaja, who protects the arm well. Bailaaja is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Kolistaja has escaped the position, nice work there. Bailaaja looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Bailaaja working away.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bailaaja goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Kolistaja has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Bailaaja but great work by Kolistaja. Bailaaja defending against the ground and pound. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Kolistaja working away. Bailaaja is looking to reverse the position. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Bailaaja can do anything to dispel that myth. Kolistaja trying to control the action but Bailaaja is working from the bottom. Bailaaja is trying to improve his position. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Kolistaja is looking to take a break and control but Bailaaja is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Hongan Kolistaja will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!
Kolistaja works Bailaaja's body with a nice hook. An inside leg kick lands from Bailaaja. Kolistaja wants to clinch. Bailaaja feints and then cracks Kolistaja's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Kolistaja down. Bailaaja chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Kolistaja takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Kolistaja doesn't manage to clinch there - Bailaaja circles away.
Bailaaja lands a leg kick that knocks Kolistaja off balance momentarily. Bailaaja thumps Kolistaja with a low kick. Bailaaja throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Kolistaja. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Bailaaja throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Bailaaja connects with an inside leg kick. Bailaaja swats away the attempt to clinch by Kolistaja. Bailaaja circles away from the clinch attempt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bailaaja takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Hongan Kolistaja is winning the standup battle so far. Kolistaja fails in his attempt to clinch. Bailaaja throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Kolistaja. Bailaaja slips under a jab. Kolistaja has managed to clinch.
Bailaaja jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Kolistaja walks away with a smile on his face. Bailaaja gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Bailaaja feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Kolistaja's calf. Bailaaja circles away from the clinch attempt.
Kolistaja lands a two punch combo.
It looks like Kreisi Bailaaja has been cut. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Bailaaja fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Bailaaja throws a nice outside leg kick. Kolistaja swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Kolistaja doesn't manage to clinch there - Bailaaja circles away.
Bailaaja lands a nice leg kick that just misses Kolistaja's sensitive parts. Bailaaja keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Kolistaja. Kolistaja misses with a hook.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bailaaja fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Kolistaja. Bailaaja closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Bailaaja lands in his opponent's guard. Bailaaja wants to pass the guard but Kolistaja is keeping the position. Bailaaja has gone for a leg lock! Kolistaja slips out almost immediately though and dives into Bailaaja's guard. Kolistaja got a little sloppy there for a moment and Bailaaja has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kolistaja has managed to get both his arms back between Bailaaja's legs - danger averted. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Bailaaja looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Kolistaja is defending well. Bailaaja quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Kolistaja has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Bailaaja celebrates on the ropes, with the crowd.
