The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Ren Mimura.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Bate.
Tessier will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Bate throws a body punch but Tessier moves out of range.

Tessier walks into a straight right hand from Bate.
Bate throws a quick inside leg kick.
Bate works the jab nicely.

A looping hook to the body misses from Bate. Tessier does a little dance to reset his feet.

Bate shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Tessier is looking for a sweep. Bate is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Tessier is refusing to be controlled, as Bate sits in half guard.

Tessier is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Tessier has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Bate can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Bate tries to free his leg and advance position but Tessier is retaining full guard.
Tessier is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Bate lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Bate staying calm.
Bate is looking to take a break and control but Tessier is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Bate content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Tessier tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Bate wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Tessier is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Bate's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Bate's back!

Tessier has got his arm under Bate's chin working for the choke… has he got it? It looks pretty tight! Oh! Bate has spun round into Tessier's guard beautifully! Well done that man!

Tessier escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bate gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Bate stands up over Tessier, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Tessier can't keep his opponent in guard - Bate advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Tessier gets full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bate wants to control from the top but Tessier keeps moving.
Bate chips away with some ground and pound.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Tessier has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Bate is working away from the top position though.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Still in half guard, Bate seems content to control.
Bate is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Bate seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Tessier has hold of Bate's hands but Bate slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Bate looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Tessier with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Tessier won't allow Bate to pass to mount.

Bate slips a nice elbow through Tessier's hands, connecting with Tessier's forehead.
