Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Lee Leeson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Gustaf Lindback! The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Kenichi Hosakawa and Ren Mimura.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A decent looking cross lands there for Leeson. Leeson punishes Lindback's body with a nice straight punch. Leeson lands with a right hand. Lindback lands a nice leg kick that just misses Leeson's sensitive parts. Lindback tries to close the distance and clinch up but Leeson swats him away and circles back towards the center. Lindback uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Leeson. Leeson throws out a loose jab but Lindback uses good head movement to avoid it. Lee Leeson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Lindback takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
A big right from Leeson misses. Leeson fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. A cross from Leeson lands. Lindback shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Lindback showed some decent athleticism there. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Leeson is looking for a sweep. Lindback is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Leeson keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Lindback thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Leeson's head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lindback throwing shots but Leeson is blocking nicely. Lindback works his way into side control. Leeson struggling a bit here. Lindback connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Leeson some visible discomfort.
Leeson takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Lindback with the ground and pound but Leeson regains half guard under the barage of strikes. Lindback thows a huge punch but Leeson dodges it nicely.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Lindback lands a nice short elbow.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lindback slips a nice elbow through Leeson's hands, connecting with Leeson's forehead. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Lindback has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Leeson defend it? Lindback steps over the head and cranks it - Leeson is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Lindback!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Gustaf Lindback! Gustaf Lindback tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
