PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Matt Wolf (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Franklin Diggins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diggins is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Bonfire. Matt Wolf had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Matt Wolf!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Franklin Diggins!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Eddie Farnsworth and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diggins avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Diggins tries a head kick but it misses.
Diggins keeps the fight on the outside.
Diggins wants to clinch up but Wolf keeps it at a distance.
Diggins tries to clinch but Wolf moves out of range.
Wolf fails with an attempt to clinch.
Diggins is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Wolf shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Diggins is trying to defend but Wolf finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Diggins is on top in guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Matt Wolf wasn't doing enough on the ground.

and Diggins counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Matt Wolf seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Diggins counters with an inside leg kick.

Wolf tries to clinch up but Diggins circles away and keeps his distance.
Diggins tries to close the distance and clinch up but Wolf swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Diggins moves into the clinch successfully.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Diggins takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Wolf misses with the head strike.
Wolf is trying to push Diggins away but Diggins has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Diggins landing knees to the body.
Wolf wants to take the fight to the mat but Diggins manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Wolf's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Diggins is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Diggins misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Wolf.
Wolf is trying to break free.
Diggins will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Wolf up against the cage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Franklin Diggins.
Diggins tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Wolf paws at him with a jab and circles away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Wolf's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Wolf moves in looking to clinch but Diggins pushes him off.
Diggins is looking to clinch but Wolf is avoiding it.
Wolf closes this distance looking for a takedown but Diggins circles away.
Diggins slaps away a takedown attempt from Wolf, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Wolf thows a left - swing and a miss!
Wolf fails with the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Matt Wolf. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Horrible takedown by Wolf or perhaps it was just good defense by Diggins which made him look bad.

Diggins doesn't manage to clinch there - Wolf circles away.
Diggins takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Wolf chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Diggins can pounce on him.

Franklin Diggins showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Wolf shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Wolf was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Diggins can do anything to dispel that myth.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Wolf cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Diggins is still in real trouble! Can Wolf finish him?
Oooooh, big shot lands for Wolf! Diggins is hurt baaadly! Wolf is firing away with more strikes - Diggins is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Matt Wolf!
