PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Marius Wistrom (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Esko Cifra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cifra has chosen Asher as his entrance music. Wistrom has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Marius Wistrom!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Esko Cifra!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Wagner Zegers and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wistrom misses with a straight left.
Wistrom is breathing heavily.
Wistrom on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Wistrom leaves Cifra with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Wistrom takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Cifra gets a clinch.

Cifra has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Wistrom regains guard immediately.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Esko Cifra wasn't active enough on the ground.
Wistrom keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Horrible takedown by Cifra or perhaps it was just good defense by Wistrom which made him look bad.
Marius Wistrom has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Esko Cifra.
Cifra shoots in for a double leg but Wistrom sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Cifra closes the distance and clinches.
Wistrom is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Cifra pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Cifra has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Wistrom avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Cifra striking off his back but it's not causing Wistrom any problems.
Cifra wants to sweep but no luck.
Cifra manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Wistrom wants to hold on but Cifra pushes him away.
Cifra postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Wistrom looks a forlorn figure.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Cifra is landing with some decent strikes but Wistrom is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cifra is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Cifra is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Wistrom to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Wistrom shrugs it off.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Cifra looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Cifra wants to clinch.
Cifra throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Wistrom's waist but Wistrom gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Cifra off to one side.

Cifra is looking to break free of the clinch but Wistrom has double underhooks.

Wistrom tries to pull guard but Cifra holds him up against the cage and eventually Wistrom drops back down to his feet.

Cifra drops down looking for an ankle pick but Wistrom pulls his leg out and moves away.

Cifra seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Cifra tries to move to mount but Wistrom blocks the move with his legs.

Cifra decides to stand up, so the ref orders Wistrom to his feet.
Cifra changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Wistrom tries to avoid it but Cifra manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Wistrom to the ground. Wistrom escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Nice sprawl there from Wistrom as Cifra shoots in.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Cifra accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Wistrom is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Cifra defends well.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Esko Cifra hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Cifra shoots in for a takedown but Wistrom shows good takedown defense.
Cifra tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Wistrom manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Cifra!

Cifra has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Esko Cifra showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Cifra is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Wistrom has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Cifra tries to control but Wistrom wriggling away.
Esko Cifra has got the better of the ground game so far.
Wistrom is in a horrible position here. Cifra smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Wistrom on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Wistrom tries to get out of the position.

Wistrom is squirming around, avoiding Cifra's attempts to control the action.

The referee warns Wistrom that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Esko Cifra is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Well Cifra has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
