Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yasuhiru Kanayama! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, MJ Ruiz! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Ren Mimura and Shigeki Fujiwara.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kanayama instigates a clinch. Ruiz manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Kanayama trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Kanayama lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Kanayama wants to control from the top but Ruiz keeps moving. Kanayama has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Kanayama would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Kanayama stops Ruiz from standing up. Kanayama wants to control from the top but Ruiz keeps moving.

We're going to have a standup here because Yasuhiru Kanayama wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Ruiz misses with a takedown attempt - Kanayama sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Kanayama shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Kanayama showed some decent athleticism there. Kanayama wants to stand up but Ruiz has a hold of him and won't allow it. Kanayama is working for a kimura but Ruiz is defending it quite comfortably.
Kanayama is keen to just control but Ruiz is a slippery customer.

Kanayama is pressing down on Ruiz's thigh, looking to free his foot. Ruiz is holding on for now. Kanayama stops Ruiz from getting back to his feet.
Kanayama perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Kanayama stands up and beckons Ruiz to join him on the feet. Kanayama throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Ruiz shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Kanayama counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Kanayama.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Kanayama postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Kanayama sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Ruiz's guard. Ruiz pushes Kanayama off looking to stand but Kanayama dives back in and keeps control.
Kanayama looks to score some points with some ground and pound. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Kanayama wants to take a breather but Ruiz is having none of it. Kanayama is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Yasuhiru Kanayama dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Ruiz gets caught napping as Kanayama dives in and scores a takedown. Ruiz manages to retain guard. Ruiz is working an open guard so Kanayama takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Kanayama closes this distance looking for a takedown but Ruiz circles away. Ruiz catches Kanayama with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! Ruiz throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Kanayama was covering up waiting for the punch and Ruiz finishes the takedown easily into guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Ruiz decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Kanayama, up you get! Ruiz fails to land the takedown. Kanayama avoids the head kick by Ruiz.
Yasuhiru Kanayama is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Ruiz fails with the takedown and Kanayama counters with a shoot takedown. Ruiz fights it but they end up in guard. Kanayama distracts Ruiz with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Ruiz is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kanayama trying to control but Ruiz is working from the bottom. Ruiz is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Kanayama dives into side control.
Ruiz wants to get back to his feet but Kanayama is dominant here and he's now got Ruiz's back! Kanayama struggling to keep hold of the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ruiz has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke. Kanayama wants to control but Ruiz manages to buck him off and is now in Kanayama's guard! Nice work there by Ruiz! Kanayama working a defensive guard here.

Ruiz is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kanayama breaks from Ruiz's wrist control and lands an elbow. Kanayama looking to control but Ruiz is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Ruiz trying desperately to get to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kanayama working for a submission but Ruiz is keeping him at bay. Kanayama controlling from the full mount. Ruiz is trying to stand up. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Kanayama looking to control and managing it successfully. Kanayama lands a nice shot to the head. Yasuhiru Kanayama dominated that second round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
A leg kick checked by Ruiz. Ruiz with a poor takedown and Kanayama counters with a takedown into side control. Kanayama working the ground and pound. Ruiz wants to get back to his feet. Ruiz prevents Kanayama from improving position. Kanayama decides to stand up, so the ref orders Ruiz to his feet. Kanayama closes the distance and pushes Ruiz back into the cage. Kanayama is trying to break the clinch but Ruiz has him pressed against the cage. This has been an exciting period of action! Kanayama wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ruiz stalling in the clinch but Kanayama improves position. Kanayama gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Ruiz.

Ruiz breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Kanayama closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Ruiz did well to prevent Kanayama getting side control. Ruiz is trying to stand.
Kanayama seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Ruiz does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Ruiz takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Kanayama is keen to just control but Ruiz is a slippery customer. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Ruiz is pushing down on Kanayama's leg trying to pass to half guard. Kanayama is fighting to maintain full guard but Ruiz has managed to sneak the leg through. Kanayama tries to get to full guard but Ruiz has control of the leg.

Ruiz seems to be working for a kimura but Kanayama defends the submission attempt. Kanayama tries to roll over but Ruiz keeps him under control. Kanayama is working hard here to advance position. Kanayama kicks off Ruiz and gets to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. No luck for Ruiz with that takedown attempt. Yasuhiru Kanayama has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of MJ Ruiz. Kanayama scores a takedown into full mount! Kanayama swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Ruiz is now in Kanayama's guard. A big mistake from Kanayama there, giving up the dominant position! Ruiz stands up from guard. Let's bang! MJ Ruiz has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! This has been an exciting period of action! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Kanayama closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Kanayama taking a break here but Ruiz is having none of it and regains half guard. Yasuhiru Kanayama is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Kanayama wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ruiz keeps working.
And that's the end of the fight! Yasuhiru Kanayama showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Kanayama, winning every round. Will the judges agree?
